First, however, I believe that notch should redo the boat movement. If you have ever tried to navigate a narrow passage (man-made canals and watersides) you know how bad boats are. There has to be better maneuverability, less turning lag, and perhaps even reverse. Once he gets that implemented, then we can get the epic boats.
What I would like more than ever is for everyone to comment on the Reddit post Noobcrew has up. Notch patrols Reddit regularly, or so I hear; so if he were to see that on Reddit it would be considered for sure. And it WAS pretty dang popular, but slowly got replaced by other popular pages. Reddit's weird.
Wow. You obviously have put a lot of time and effort into this project. I am highly impressed. I definitely would like to see some larger/different boats in minecraft. We have the recources... now let us use them Notch!
I really like it but I think the boat shouldn't be that huge and cannons aren't really necessary: SOLO-Oh my god there's a spider on this island. BOOOOOM! Woops I wasted a load of ressources for this spider. SMP-Hey another boat sink them! BOOOOM BOOOM BOOOOM BOOOO...Server crashed.
yea this is really awesome, +1!
but following to giant boats, i want the giant ocean with 40+km length to be an usual biome. that would be super awesome. or better, every world should be seperated in continents which are surrounded by water (of course really really big continents, like 10000x10000 blocks) so shipping becomes an more important part of minecraft. also, this would justify big harbours! :laugh.gif:
Oceans are already super huge, but continents would be AWESOME.

You make no sense.
Are you telling me that someone would actually go through the effort of using a cannon to kill a spider (Which would be heavily inaccurate without precise calculations) rather than go and kill/shoot it normally, and that cannons function the same as TNT blocks and would crash the server? Do you even know HOW TNT blocks crash servers? Did you even read the idea thoroughly?
Cannons are quite necessary to protect against enemy ships and raiders, and also to sabotage trading runs. Simple arrows just won't do the trick.

Check out Boats Evolved; the fancy huge customizable boats Notch tweeted about brought to life!
No matter how much you work on an idea, you have to have a realistic perception of asking someone else to make it. I do like the idea, since boats are certainly one of the most lackluster items in the game. But I feel there has to be some perspective, you want something done for you and that's a lot to ask the larger the idea gets.
Here's to hoping a modder picks it up. Perhaps the guy who makes the airship mod.
I think you're somewhat missing the point here, Hyomoto. He showed 6 different Levels of implementation ( From small/Dinghy to Insanely big/galleon), so there's a refreshingly broad perspective how much of this could be implemented.
For some reason, it got behind with other posts and fell out of circulation.
But I'm sure if people were to recognize its existence again it would get back to being popular.

Comment the crap out of it!
Also, just for fun I decided to make this:
I hate PvP but omg, that looks like soooo much fun :laugh.gif:
I now want this 1000% more.
Fun?...FUN?! That looks so impossibly epic that I may just have we- oh...no. I just spilled my drink, nevermind. Still, EPIC!
