What if the world is just an updated version of minecraft?
I think if you are going to add huge awesome boats you need to add naturally occuring pirates. almost like a new mob but only attacks when in your ship.
... And, let me guess, some sort of "pirate haven" that could be attacked by players, ransacked, and looted?
Now, I like Geena Davis in Cutthroat Island just as much as anyone, and one of my ancestors is said to perhaps have been some scallywag pirate off t' coast o' England ... but I'm just not understanding this whole "pirates" fascination. And no, if you were to ask, no I did NOT see any of the "Pirates of the Carribean" movies...
This would be awesome. It would make oceans on 'Large Biomes' almost bearable to cross, even if there is only a desert on the other side... Plus this would make for a nice end-game goal: make a gold-armored, blue-sailed, 12-gunned galleon. I could see that being a solid accomplishment.

The vast majority of people root for the bad guy in movies, just not in real life. Example: You want the guys who pull off the massive heist on a casino to get away with it in a movie but most people aren't thinking "You go boy!" if/when they are witness to a bank robbery or a store being robbed; I am, but most people aren't. That, I assume, is the fascination.
Ah, then you're missing out. They were pretty funny and somewhat entertaining. Geoffrey Rush is a great actor.
This is absolutely brilliant. I think that vswe from Steve's Carts should make a mod for this. His Minecart mod is somewhat similar, so he has the ability and experience to do it correctly. I'll ask him if he'd be willing to look at it. Here is a copy of the message I sent:
Quote from Ping-PongNinja4444 »
I love the work you have done on your Minecart mod. It is easily the best mod I've ever seen. I think it would be superb if you could come look at this thread, which outlines an idea (not made by me, only endorsed by me) for a new system of boats that is somewhat similar to how you revolutionized minecarts. I think I speak for much of the Minecraft community when I say that it would be incredible if you could consider collaborating with the thread creator to make this a mod. Thank you for your time, and keep up the great work!
No it's not. It's .... "pragmatic". Vswe is taking a realistic view of the realistic amounts of time that goes into developing a project. So, it's not in any way selfish or standoffish, except for however bluntly the response may have been.
Oh but you _want_ "standoffish"? Fine; I can do that quite well thank you. Or, rather, let's be "frank": I'd rather have a talk with all the people who have _EVER_ posted in these suggestions threads about a much larger concept. So, original-poster, you have an idea for a mod? Great! Post the idea and see what happens. But, be careful, because as eager as you are to see good and inciteful comments (and I am, too, believe me), just having a suggestion thread does not guarantee the idea becomes a mod.
The "burden of proof", as it were, almost always lies upon the original poster to give life to. An idea for a mod does not get developed based upon forum support, because you're not really asking others to do this for you, are you? It gets developed based on personal involvement of the originator of the idea, and perhaps (if you're lucky) a few chosen ones to assist along the way. What is this "personal involvement", you say? If you can see it as an idea, you can believe it can be done ... and hopefully by YOU. Codify your idea into some logical, written document (whether by pen-and-paper or in digital document form); this forces you to analyze, as a potential mod, what will be taking place. Organize this as a project, by recognizing features and component parts that can be handled in an orderly fashion. And finally, understand what you can do, and what you can learn that you don't already know, NOT what you can wish someone else to take upon themselves in your stead.
... *sigh*. Sorry. I'm sorry if this has turned into a long-winded rant. Bad week, parents feeling ill, that sucky-depressive holiday time of year, and all that. Take it with a grain of salt. It's just ... how exactly is being honest with oneself and others, turn into "standoffish"?????
Wait, what? The original poster never said anything about anyone being standoffish. Maybe Tiel thought his reply was a little blunt, I thought it was perfectly understandable.
Now to address the brunt of your reply. The idea itself is well thought out with a whole hell of a lot of elaboration done on small things (reference the other post you are linked to in the description as well as this one). ThesaurusRex NEVER asked for it to be made a mod, he even stated that it was not an idea for a mod, several times. He came up with and fleshed out the idea with the hopes that it may in some part be integrated into the core experience of Minecraft, not, a, mod. I along with a few other people have told him that there doesn't seem to be any real plans for this to be integrated into the core experience, or even them fixing the crap boats we have now for that matter, so we have mentioned suggesting it to the modding community. I don't really see how going on a rant about how he should learn to code it himself when he's said over and over again he didn't even plan for it to be a mod is relevant or necessary.
You said you're having a bad week, maybe that's it. It just seemed like that came out of the blue without any provocation.
if the boat is so big it will become kinda useless, you dont have that space to navigate, I just think
but with that kinda motorboat, you will cross oceans more quickly than having the little common boat,
I think adding big ships like galeons will not be able, how will you craft something that big?
you will need a bigger crafting table or something like that
but I support that motorboat, it could be the movement in ocean more quickly without crossing the limits

No, when I used the term "original poster" I was not referring specifically to ThesaurusRex84, who I'll have you know I hold in good regard for the idea and good post. I was, of course, using it as a surrogate to refer in general to any generic person who posts about their suggestion. (Well, maybe only partially referring to ThesaurusRex84, insofar as he's also someone who fits into the category; but only to the point of lighting a fire under his rear...)

Again, you missed the point. Again, I'm not saying it wasn't well thought out, and it isn't that I refer to ThesaurusRex84 as asking for it to be made, but from the reverse angle, all the happy, hungry posters after that, with the repetitious "this should be a mod" or "this should be in vanilla Minecraft" or even "why doesn't Notch do this?" posts. It only seems to me that these statements should be more directed either to ThesaurusRex84 (as encouragement to learn what is necessary to code it) or more of a plea to some developer with time on his/her hands to take up the challenge. And almost every developer who can do it, already _has_ to work on one or more projects (of their own, if not someone else's).
You said you're having a bad week, maybe that's it. It just seemed like that came out of the blue without any provocation.
I wouldn't say "provocation"; it's more confusion on how good original ideas end up in a Suggestions thread that get masses of posts, but do not get developed. Not so much "out of the blue" either, it's been building for some time, and ... Something's Gotta Give.
I'm okay now; I'll just go back to dropping nuclear reactors on every instance of My Little Pony and Miku that I come across.
Well it does have over 600 likes on another forum as well. It has been sent to Mojang, they have seen it here, no real official response though. =/
They haven't said they want to do it, are planning on doing something like it, or aren't doing it so it's kind of up in the air. If I was a betting man I'd say they don't have any real plans to do it but you never really know. A straightforward answer would have been nice out of them, but if you've ever dealt with them then you know as well as I do that straightforward answers is not something they give you. *shrugs*

My personal feeling is, they won't. Or, to be more exact, if they aren't known for responding on anyone else's suggestion in the past, they will not be likely to for anyone else in the future. After all, this is http://www.minecraftforum.net/, not http://minecraft.net/. (The difference being, the latter is "official" and the former is for "community" interaction. And while the crew at Mojang may or may not have accounts at the former, their objective is always in support of the latter, first.)
In reality, then, the "unspoken message" is that minecraftforum.net is for the players to interact, and not necessarily for Mojang employees to interact with the players. And thus the source of my frustration -- not that this is the way it is, but that I see so many posts from forum members that don't realize this. Nothing I can do about them, except occasionally point out the obvious.

Ditto above. Except that I don't bet, I deal in certainties. Which, sometimes, leave me feeling prickly.
well im sure Mojang will do something like this because instead of just looking at the suggestion look at the reason,i mean, we only have small, rickety, fragile boats that dont make much sense in physics,Mojang would have to be retarded to not even consider adding some sort of larger boats, just saying

Don't do that, I like your enthusiasm and it's fine on other forums but here it's against the rules to bump topics for the sake of it. I know, silly right? Anywho, just a friendly warning before someone gives you a less than friendly warning in the form of an infraction (they usually don't give people the benefit of the doubt/friendly warning and link to the rules the first time.). Think of some question you might have about it or something specific you'd like to talk about next time. Disguise the fact that you're bumping it with something brought to the conversation.

I'm suprised Mojang hasn't added this yet.
