thats a neat idea but personally I think it would be cool if they could be customizable. They look kinda...well crude. no offense.
If it were my choice as a player I would want to make it look like this -_^ :
Perhaps if it included some kind of raft base that could be used as is but could also be changed by adding blocks to the base. Depending on the size of the base you create the more blocks that can be added. Idk just an idea.
I REALLY badly want this. I'd LOVE to design my own ship and sail it around and actually live in it.
It'd be perfect if you could put and grow any block on the ship as then I could have my own farm on the ship.
But even if you couldn't have a farm, this is still a great idea as it'd make adventuring across oceans a bit more fun (imo anyways).
However, you'd need to be able to customize them (as I want to make my own ship in my own style and sail that around).
It is an interesting idea but how would one craft one of these? Surely not in a regular crafting table to due to the size of the 3x3 table compared to a large boat and the amount of resources it would cost to build one.
Support regardless!

Well you couldn't really make a door, piston or furnace on a table that size either. Adding a new crafting method is a good idea but might over complicate an already complicated idea; though I know he's addressed this before. He did mention "block lots" kind of like (and I know he'll hate me for saying this) the zeppelin mod has. So maybe you could build some ugly base like the current boats and then depending on the base used you could build a certain number of blocks off it.... Maybe? Then you could have the derpiest most retarded boat ever right next to a well built pirate ship. =P
On that note.....

If i were Jeb/ Dinnerbone i would wait till 1.5 to put this in... And This is a HUGE suggestion but i would also port the game to c++ so people would stop complaining about lag and fps...

Did you read the idea? I mentioned in detail how the ship crafting process would go
Wouldn't it be better them to inmplement zeppelin mod? 'Cause that would be totally costumizable.

• Yes, I have SEEN the Zeppelin Mod. You're just about the <insert large number here>th person to show me this. Yes, I've seen it. YES, I think it's a GREAT mod. Emphasis: mod. In my opinion, bigger boats in the stock (vanilla) Minecraft should be made of fixed entities, not blocks. I will not elaborate on this further because I have told it to people a bunch of times already, that's how my idea goes. Might I remind you that saying "There's a mod for that" is a warnable offense?

I would leave it alone, for anything if was added into the game... even better. SMP
