Recipes are the very least of one's needs when making a mod, second only to getting something to eat/using the bathroom. Anybody can come up with a recipe :P. It's all coding and modeling. I can do the modeling and texturing, but I'm not a coder. Also, read the post above yours.

As much as I love the idea of bigger boats, I feel that it would be difficult to make a model that fit into minecraft of that proportion without it looking out of place.

I agree with new boats; however, I don't agree with your versions of boats. For those boats to be realistic, the oceans in Minecraft would have to be a lot bigger.
@Mr_Churchill : I guess you are not aware there are dozens of threads out there containing complaints about oceans going on and on for thousands of blocks. So no, they don't, since there are already oceans bigger than 10km.
