Sorry, I'm not exactly a master of Java. Can someone explain to me what this 'Independent Entities' stuff is?
Both would be great! 1.8 oceans can get quite annoying (But still fun!), as sometimes once you get far enough from shore it's practically impossible to get to the mainland again. I don't see any battle potential in airships, though...or do I?
The independent entities is not anything to do with java, but a suggestion pertaining to each block having a separate entity or a collective entity representation in the minecraft world.
Also, airships would be a great idea, but they would have to be balanced with high cost and a requirement to stop when firing weapons because the recoil would move the airship otherwise. I really hope a steampunk dlc kit is available.
what would be really cool, but really hard to script is if you could make boats out of blocks, so they're fully customizable. then you wont have to travel from your house by boat, you could make your house a boat, just live on the open seas. this would be very useful on servers as a grief proof house.
please dont say this would be to hrad to script, i already stated that so that means i know.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
BRO THIS IS A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!!!! OMG AWESOME OMGyou should make boats fully customizable once built as thats easier to script then custom boats and wheres the crows nest???
Wow. This must have taken you quite along time to think up and plan. This has to be the best suggestion I have seen yet. Great idea, great pictures. The whole thing is just spectacular. I hope this gets put into vanilla. Great job. :smile.gif:
I'm a fan of simplicity in vanilla additions. I think the idea is great, but it's overly complicated. I'd like the game to just have a skiff that can take a few passengers.

In the game of Minecraft, pretty much everything in the world is either a Block or an Entity. If it moves around and gets acted upon by physics, it's an entity. This includes all the mobs, creepers, pigs, spiders, etc. The player is also an entity. Minecarts and boats are entities. When a block of sand or gravel finds nothing supporting it, it briefly transforms into an entity, then the physics of the game world act on it, causing it to fall down vertically, and when it lands again, it transforms back into a block.
So "Independent Entities" is taking that principle from the sand/gravel block, and applying it to whole groups of blocks. You could take a pillar of dirt, for example, knock out the bottom block, and then (magically) transform the entire pillar into an "entity" that's the same dimensions as a dirt pillar, and holds itself together, but in all other respects it acts like an entity, so the physics of the game world act on it. It then falls to the ground because of gravity.
It's up to the person doing the programming to decide whether the "dirt pillar entity" rejoins the rest of the world as Blocks after it lands.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
I see. And that could be applied to trees as well, I assume? Having them fall over? Interesting.
@Everyone suggesting the Zeppelin mod: Yes, yes. I've been shown this hundreds of times. And while I love the mod, I don't think it would be right to continue boats like that. I've given slightly more detailed reasons in my previous posts.

Check out Boats Evolved; the fancy huge customizable boats Notch tweeted about brought to life!
I hate to say it, but this is way too complicated to ever be added into minecraft. As a mod? Sure.
How is it too complicated? Have you ever thought of the world generator? And the post-1.8 world generator? Notch has coded much more difficult things in the past, and this idea isn't exactly complicated. It just takes a while to explain.

okay, i dont know if anyone has sugguested this before but if not im going to be really surprised. ive seen mentioned earlier to be using redstone to power motors? srsly? redstone is a wire type use, used for exchanging energy from one area to another, so theoretically if you tried to burn wire for energy, nothing would happen. but let me give another idea, how are "powered minecarts" powered? coal. how are trains still to this day powered? coal. so theoretically for a motor in a game where theres not really a choice for alternative fuel what should the fuel be?

Notch did say something about adding large, modifiable ships being a possibility a while ago. Then again, he said he'd never add dragons a while ago too.

I think you may have just skimmed over everything and not actually read it.
I said earlier that I thought about a redstone motor, but then realized it would be overpowered and basically not very fun. So I switched over to a steam engine. The motor ships DO use coal in my idea. You just probably didn't read it. The actual, full idea is that GetSatisfaction link in the OP, not the OP itself.

I support this idea.
WERE MAKING SHIPS OUT OF SPIDERS NOW? WHAT HAS MINECRAFT COME TO?!?!

Quoted for truth. Also, my previous statement. I'm not sure how many people are actually clicking the link now.
This isn't a mod, this is a suggestion for potential gameplay additions.
