I hadn't played Minecraft in a while, but I downloaded the 1.8 Beta to check out some of the new changes. While I like a lot of what I see, one thing is driving me crazy and that is the new 'Mountain Biome'.
Don't get me wrong, the mountains that can form there are great, I've seen some epic landscapes. What is bothering me though, is that those epic landscapes do not happen anywhere else. We used to be able to find those kinds of mountains in any biome, which led to a far more diverse world. Now, all mountains have exactly the same color grass, with very few trees. What's worse, is that all of the other biomes are flat and boring.
I'm not suggesting that epic mountains be everywhere, just that they have some chance to be. It's nice having stretches of flat terrain too, but in older versions, crazy mountain formations could spring up in desert biomes, for example, creating some of my favorite scenery in Minecraft. It seems this is impossible now, which makes me very sad.
I proclaim that it is absolutely vital that epic mountain formations be allowed, once again, to grace all variety of Biomes.
I feel very strongly about this. I may lose sleep.
They still form out of the mountain biome, but aren't as common
You may be right, but I spent hours last night creating and exploring worlds both from random seeds and my own, and I never once saw mountains outside of the mountain biome. Small hills occasionally, but nothing I would call a mountain.
So if they do in fact occur, I think they need to occur much more often.
I think a simpler solution might be to create 'Mountain' versions of other Biomes. A 'Mixed Forest Mountain' biome, a 'Pine Forest Mountain' Biome, a 'Desert Mountain' biome, etc. So, maybe they don't need a 'Swamp Mountain' biome but then again, why not?
