You do not have lag on singleplayer, so please explain further?
Because then you have to (ie) push an SMP button, download the whole circuitry system, most likely corrupting it, doing whatever command was issued in SSP and upload every single event to the SMP server (that's 7 updates for one line of redstone). Need I go further?

Erm, my suggestion is to make redstone circuits play trough your own client, so that every single event DON'T have to go trough the server, only the input..

wouldnt that mean that only the person who activates it can see whats happening?
if yes: no.
In my mind, no.
Its like this:
- You push a lever.
- The server sends out a signal to all users in the area that this lever has been pushed.
- The users clients (not the servers) will then do the rest of the job, sending the signal trough the circuit.

So I wondered if it's possible to somehow have redstone circuits to not play trough the server, but on your own client, or something like that?
If it is, add it!

What I think he means is this;
DOWNLOADING MAP TIME
RESPAWNING TIME
GETTING STOOF YOU HAD IN THAT SERVER
GETTING YOUR CHESTS
PISTONS
ORE BLOCKS
+CHUNK LOADS
--------------
How much lag, now?

That would be impossible.
