So I was building something in creative and to feed both my obsession and impatience for assassins creed revelations I was listening to the assassins creed 2 OST. I started thinking... man I wish there was music like this in game. Then I got an idea... TF2 did really well with it so why not minecraft?
Yup... crossovers... (Don't think about how they are distributed. ex: buying other games or what not; this is just a plain idea that popped in my head)
__________
A cross over is when two gaming companies decide to "crossover" there games by making promotional items where if you buy this game for a limited time will give you items in the other game and vice versa
for example:
Valve is a huge user of this... in their game Team Fortress 2 they have promotional items for other games... the most recent was deus ex so I'll use that as an example... if you pre ordered deus ex you would get deus ex themed weapons in TF2. If you bought killing floor for a certain amount of time you would receive TF2 themed items in Killing Floor and Killing Floor themed items in TF2.
_______________
BUT not just any crossover... I know you guys wouldn't like all these new items ruining the view of your wonderful exclusive game...
So instead of crossovering items what about music? We could have 8-bit styled versions of some music from our favorite games... all approved by the community of course. It would be awesome to listen to the music from deus ex, skyrim, or assassins creed in game, heck even TF2 or even portal and portal 2 in minecraft without having to play a seperate sound track in a separate window or browswer.
All of these are special records that can be distributed however Mojang decides. It could be bought, it could be free... who knows maybe even other companies realize how popular this game is and would take this as a perfect way to advertise their games.... so the music, which btw would fit perfectly with the game if made right, would be distributed for free possibly... knowing the friendliness of Mojang they wouldn't charge the other companies anything and give them free advertising (but then again who knows what they would do).
These records would be rare of course.
TL;DR 8-bit music crossovers of other games placed within the games (ex: assassins creed, deus ex, TF2, etc.) They would be distributed how ever mojang feels is appropriate and the music must be approved by the community so that at least a majority would feel the music fits within the game. The records would be rare to get.
I've never heard of this being done and have no idea what the hell you're talking about O_o. It sounds pointless.

I don't like the "limited time only" if that would exist. Instead of this I offer an alternative:
Ability to make custom records: AKA The Dynamic Record.
No MP3, no WMA, no WAV. Instead go MIDI.
Using the java to write the midi from a txt input, and it'll output as a midi, maybe even write the midi to a server if in SMP. Thus you can have music craft without many note blocks and with alittle searching you could add in your Assassin Creed music. :wink.gif:

"If it already has been done then it can be done again" or
"If its a mod its possible to be a feature"
But how would minecraft tell you bought the game without steam? I like the idea though.
Well what if mojang decides not to make users pay for them (because they've never done it in the past) and just say for example bethesda one day goes up to mojang and say hey... would you like to do a crossover. Knowing mojang's business model they won't charge bethesda nor the players so the music is free and is placed in the game. Free adv. for bethesda, the players are happy, and Mojang is satisfied. Everyone's happy.
Now that I've woken up from this dream:
Then again this is best case scenario and is probably never going to happen
You wouldn't even need to pay for it
And since when do developers HAVE to make their customers pay extra. The only way we would have to pay for this content is if bethesda or whoever decides that the only way they would allow their content is if users payed for it, and even then you wouldn't need steam. Mojang can make a Notch store or something like in that april fools joke.
