With the advent of Snowmen it seems that player created mobs are not only possible but the code is there for them. So here are some suggestions for two more
Flesh Golem.
Think Frankenstines Monster, made by creating a torso block a head block and a legs block out of rotting flesh (which are created by arranging rotting flesh in the pattern of a armor curias, helmet and leggings respectively), putting them up in the right order and "Sparking" them to light with redstone. The Golem would follow the player around, be able to climb ladders and fight mobs in melee. This mob would be rather strong and tough but fairly indescriminate in who it attacks, perfectly willing to jump into a creeper to wrestle it to death. It would be unable to equip weapons or tools and
Stone Golem
Would be created with the same method as building flesh golems, however for arms the player would place fenceposts on the sides of the golem and it would require a chest on its back. This golem would be much tougher than the player and can also carry items. Their weakness however is that they are unable to act on their own. The player gives them some kind of simple order (such as mine as far as you can, harvest any ores and return to this spot) and they can do nothing else. They are also incabable of fighting in combat.
Sentry: Made by placing a dispenser into a minecart. It fires arrows into any hostile mob that walks into range, however it is unable to move itself and must be placed on rails of some kind.
Seriously thought the Sentry idea was brilliant. It is smart because it does not allow a free roaming "mini-gun" and it would still be as effective. I imagine building parallel rails up to my base, on those rails being sentries that will slaughter enemy mobs.
Top : Dispenser
Middle : Furnace
Bottom: Ironblock
-> Golem.
You have to put coal and a bucket of water in it.
One bucket of water (doesn't stack !) gives steam for, say 1 Minute, then it has to be filled up.Also you could load arrows in the dispenser head, but one shot would reduce moving time by 5 seconds.
Edit : They should be shut off when standing on powered redstone, which heals them. Shutting the grid off activates them. So be sure they don't leave the grid ;)Anyone like that variant ?
If you used a bucket of Lava, it vaporizes the water double as fast but gives the golem 50% more speed. Shooting stuff will still take 5seconds away, though.
This would give him a wide range of uses, since you can decide if you want him to run around a lot or mainly to shoot stuff.

(Original idea by Regular Hexahedron)
Is deactivated when standing on powered redstone, can shoot arrows and do melee combat.
How would you like this one ?
Fire
Netherrack
Glowstone
Throws fireballs at enemy mobs.
Or maybe it sets everything on fire within a certain radius but burns out for like 15 seconds when it does it.
