Wolves can be a useful ally against monsters, but it's hard to travel with them because they keep doing dumb things like falling off cliffs, plummeting into lava, or teleporting into deadly spots and suffocating.
What if you could bring wolves along with in item form, then deploy them only when necessary (and safe for them to move around)?
I suggest that right clicking on a tame wolf (that is loyal to you) with an ender pearl teleports the wolf into the ender pearl. This would create a "wolf pearl", which would have an icon that looks like an ender pearl with a little wolf face trapped in it. Wolf pearls would not stack the way ender pearls do, but you still could carry a decent number of wolves around with you that way if you're willing to give up the inventory space.
Tossing a wolf pearl on the ground releases the wolf on that spot, ready to assist you. This also consumes the pearl, so if you want to retrap the wolf later you need to have another ender pearl with you.
Since its an item you could store it in chests and dispensers (although only players could release wolves, dispensers would shoot wolf pearls out still in item form). Perhaps a wolf emerging from a wolf pearl would be loyal to whichever player released it, making wolf pearls a way of trading wolves to other players and changing their loyalty. That might also be simpler to code, since you wouldn't need to store any loyalty data in the wolf pearl. Perhaps each wolf would come out fully healed too, so the wolf pearl would, from a programming perspective, be creating a new tame wolf on the spot with no need to retain any data about the wolf you trapped.
Player one: ALRIGHT, CREEPAZAUR GO! *Throws enderpearl* "Creepasssssssaur..."
Player 2: OH YEAH? GO, SQUIDIZARD! *Throws enderpearl*
Player 2: SQUIDIZARD, USE SWIM! *Squid flaps tentacles*
Player one: CREEPAZAUR, USE EXPLOSION! Creepassssssss*BOOM*
This is Minecraft, not Pokemon. If someone wants to take a wolf with them, they should just be aware of it and take care of it. No need for anything like this.
That said, it's pretty much impossible to take a wolf with you if you travel through a cave or ravine. Or anywhere near lava. The only cautious move there is to leave it at home.
Seems a shame that you can't make use of wolves when you need em most.

This is a logical and well-thought out solution to carrying wolves around.
Kudos to you, sir! +1

OT: Not bad, but to much like PokeMo
