Dungeons should have visible entrances, above ground.
Signs should be placed randomly around, warning players about it.
They should be fairly large, with about 3~5 monster spawners* per dungeon, and one very large room that has a "boss" monster.
Enderman -> Ender Lord: You don't look at them, they look at you
Zombie -> Giant (Yay, finally a use for those!): It's giant. Deal with it.
Skeleton -> Spider Jockey: But like, harder
Spider -> Giant Spider: Climbs the ceiling
Creeper -> No Creeper dungeon, that's just mean
Slime -> Master Slime: Constantly summons slimes
*You could now destroy monster spawners
**Eliminating a boss in a dungeon near an NPC village grants you access to their chest (Yay, now he could make those too!)
***There is 0~1 chest by monster spawners, and 3~5 chests that are unlocked after killing the boss
****Bosses drop 5x the items from a regular mob, and 1 golden apple
Boss mobs are planned to be in strongholds in 1.10
Dungeons are...no. Dungeons are small rooms with a single spawner in them. STRONGHOLDS are the ones that I, personally, want more of a use.

I've been playing WAAAAY to many RPGs......
