Mojang have already implemented multiple dimensions in single player with the Nether (and more than likely a sky dimension with 1.9). How's about linking separate seeds with a crafted portal? Once the portal is constructed, you could choose from a list of saves to link to.
As a Myst fan, I would get overexcited about this. The whole point of that series was to walk through someone else's worlds and see their creations, as well as learn about how they were made. If I could create my own interdimensional nexus beyond what already exists in-game, Notch would have pulled off what Cyan Worlds failed to do with a Myst MMO.
Awesome idea. It'd be cool if it worked between servers, too.

If you'd like to help me out, I think the best thing you could do is check out my YouTube channel, even more than voting up my reputation, though that'd be nice too.
Sky dimension has been in the games code for ages now FYI
And I do not really get this idea, I mean when I play single player, I play, mine and build until ive done everything I can think of, then I would most likely start a new map and start over. I just dont see that much of a point to going to a different SP world that you most likely got bored of.

I can see that. Obviously then we need to be able to set parameters on worlds before creating them, as was already discussed in another thread. That way you have a Reason to link to the Lava World, or link to your underwater fortress, or the sky temple, or the Bleached Bonehuts of Wasted Karma.
Related ideas:
- Specific portals that link to only one world.
- Multiple portals that link to multiple spawn points in the same world.
- Portals in the form of common objects. Books, maps, paintings, blocks, what have you.

A mod already exists out there that does just that. On a friend's set of servers, I was wowed to be able to walk through Stargates and cross over that way.

A double resolution graphics pack that stays faithful to the originals.
