I have been exploring quite a bit in 1.8 and 1.9. I have my opinions, most of which are just that. But one topic sincerely urks me. Ravines. Allow me to share my thoughts with you and please take them into consideration as my opinion.
Quickly looking at the new rivers which appear in the game, one can quickly tell that the rivers are much wider then that of the common ravine, even large ones. Erosion is a damn neuro surgeon now? These things are so narrow you can quickly build a block bridge across them! These should be bordering 4 chunks wide at LEAST I think. I believe ravines need to be made much longer as well as much wider. Perhaps vary their depth a bit more, but the width and length are far too small. Their seemingly common status occuring at least every 10 chunks or so seems quite unusual. Hell, try avoiding one of these while exploring a cave system (I once ran into one that had FIVE connecting ravines). They occur at every depth, far far too often. It's not that I don't enjoy them, I do, but I want to be excited to see them. Thrilled if you will to stumble upon one. I believe they need to be made into their own biomes of sorts. The size of current biomes even, added to the mix. Made rare, perhaps not as rare as the mushroom biome (still havn't found one of these without someone elses seed and coords :tongue.gif:) Overall I do enjoy the changes though. Please feel free to input your opinions as well, I'm eager to see what others think.
Please give some Input via the poll, and/or a post explaining your opinion, and your vote if I didn't list one you like.
A ravine doesn't need erosion to occur, it could be from plate tectonics. I think the ravines are kind of nice but they intersect badly with the various biomes. I guess it would be nice if some of them were wider, it would be nice to build a house on a ravine wall.
This. All to often I come to a ravine and I can sprint jump over it. With this You actually have to build a legitimate bridge to get by it, without wasting time walking ALL the way around it.
come come now! More input, I see you onlookers! I am excited to hear what people think on this.
*Was really hoping to see this thread get more interest, but I guess it's one of those seemingly minor things that not many people care about :tongue.gif:
