I have been thinking recently that minecraft doesn't have any flying mobs. I have looked around and found that I share the idea with many. But questions keep coming up and I'm going to try and answer them all.
Q:How will theses mobs behave toward the player?
A:I think that the mob should behave toward the player in a non-aggressive manner unless you are aggressive to it.
Q:How will it interact with the NPCs?
A:it should be aggressive to the NPCs but the NPCs should give out great rewards for bringing items that show you beat one.
Q:Should it be tamable?
A:Yes, but at a huge cost for the player like having to give it a diamond or something along those lines.
If there are any other questions please post them and I will answer them as i can. Will mostly be Thursdays
How would this work with other mobs? Such as pigs or sheep would the mob swoop down and grab them? And also what would this mob be? Dragon Griffin giant hawk or eagle like from lord of the rings there are just to many holes in your idea so i belive with a little work this could work out but with out work it could never work out
Q:How would this work with other mobs?
A: It would kill the mobs as it needed food. After all it would have to eat as well.
Q:What would this mob be?
A: It could be anything from a large hawk to a dragon to a griffin. The point of this was to get the behavior then the creature but it is a thought that will be put on the back burner, for now.
Q:Doesn't a ghast fly?
A: Yes, but to meet the requirements I set for the mob: 1 it must be tamable. 2 it must spawn naturally out of the nether.
There will be two flying mobs in the nether by 1.9, but overworld mobs could include (these are rough ideas):
Hawk
Health: 8
Damage: 1-easy 1.5-normal 2-hard
Behavior: The hawk flies around harmlessly in the sky at a range of 5-25 blocks(estimate) from the ground. It occasionally attacks passive mobs, and when meat is on the ground (as an item) it swoops down and eats it. if you manage to hurt it, it will attempt to swoop you.
Spawning: semi-common in desert biomes and plains biomes, uncommon in swamps, doesn't spawn in snowy biomes and is rare in all others.
Drops: feathers 1-3
For those of you who prefer the bigger, meaner flying mob:
Gargoyle
Health:20
Damage:1-easy 2-normal 3-hard
Behavior: These would act as a mini-boss in my eyes. They are grey-black creatures of 2.5 blocks tall, they have large wings and horns. Their method of attack consists of throwing rocks at the player with moderate speed and range. They have a 24 block sight radius (8 more than a normal mob, besides endermen and ghasts) and fly at just under the speed of the player's walking speed.
Spawning: 7- light level, above all opaque blocks. (no glass). they spawn uncommonly in mountain biomes and swamps, very rarely in all others.
Drops: not sure on this one. maybe flint, smoothstone or POSSIBLY (probably not :tongue.gif: ) mossy cobblestone.

These are just some suggestions...
