Remember back in Alpha when there was a tutorial button and it was greyed out?
I suggest that It be put back in.
That's all.
Just in case someone new gets it, feels as though they can't do much, and quit the game in frustration.
This would solve that problem.
Just a simple level that resets itself once you finish and is accessible via the main menu, and runs new players through simple crafting recipes, how to move and how to survive a little bit.

I think the current achievement system is designed to be an in-game tutorial, so a tutorial level would seem redundant.

if they want to know how to play they can look on the wiki
i think its more fun to learn games by yourself anyway though

sounds like a good idea, i remember when i first started playing minecraft in beta 1.3 i had to use the minecraft wiki because i had no idea what to do, i didnt even know how to making a crafting table and i had to make it peaceful otherwise i would have gotten owned lol, so this is a very good idea to add back into the game for new players so i am hoping that it does get added in.

looking on the wiki can take longer to do, whereas having a tutorial you can just do it ingame without having to open up your browser, etc
also it depends on who you are and your style of learning how to play new games, but i think most people would prefer to have a tutorial mode, even if it's there, doesnt mean that you must use it though, there's still nothing stopping you from learning on your own or using the wiki even if there is a optional tutorial mode.
i think if someone (i.e. OP or someone whose done this alot) should make a tut. level map (that's what i thought this was when i clicked the link)
show what things are,how to make them, just like an adventure map, but for a tutorial, put in "note 1, note 2" etc txt files in the pack, show how to instal maps, basic controls, and how to put in texture packs on the forum post, etc.
I need one of these for my lil' cousin whose just starting minecraft, and would love to see it done!
