Not really, at least from what I've seen, it doesn't have as many layers, this is like giant floating land pieces stacked on eachother, the skylands will have layers, but not as many as this or as vertical. I'm thinking there can be seperate "islands" like this, and you'd start off on one, but you'd need to build bridges to get to the others. This one would also be infinite.

If/when the skylands are added perhaps there should be different biomes, some high density like this with many layers and others low density with fewer islands.
These high density areas might be shrouded in eternal darkness though, if light works the same way it does on the overworld, since the top islands would block light to the lower ones. Perhaps there would have to be other light sources in there, same way the nether has glowstone and lava, to keep it from getting dark.
Like call it "World Tree" or something.
