I don't know if this had been suggested before, but here goes...
Cutting blocks:
Okay, how about when you right-click on a block(obsidian, chest etc don't work), it will be cut 1/8 from the direction you are looking at. Since I am not good at explaining stuff, I am going to use pictures :biggrin.gif:
If you have a block(below 8x8 dirt thing is ONE BLOCK only)
But if you stand on the right-side, yes your right, and cut the block from there,
< cutting it from side removes vertically by 1/8
Which means 7/8 of that part of the block is left. Now this works for ALL sides, and if you cut a block which is already cut, you will be able to make it even smaller, even until it is destroyed, for example I cut the above picture on the top part...
<-- Cutting from top removes horizontally by 1/8
I think some of you might be confused, but here is another explaination. If you take a block and devide it into 8x8x8 parts, when you right-click(cut) a block, that part of the block where you are looking at will disppear, making a smaller block with some parts gone.
Now how are you going to cut?
It is very simple, the time taken to cut a block will be the same as destroying it(tools or no), so if you use a hand on a dirt block, it will cut very quickly but if you use it on a stone you can't, you need a pickaxe.
A cut block will have the same properties as a non-cut one, except that it looks smaller, however, it can allow objects, mobs, etc to pass through
However, one disadvantage that should be put in is that if you cut a block you can never retrieve the resource, I mean how can you harvest a smaller block and get a big one.
Uses?
Since it can allow stuff to pass through, you can make a small hole in the wall where mobs cannot pass through but you can shoot arrows through it.
Some people might hate having glowtstone ceiling lights potruding out so much, so you can cut it into a slightly smaller light where it looks very flat but looks like it is attacthed to the ceiling instead of being part of it.
You can have half blocks that is on the upper side of the block! By cutting from below.
I like the part about the glowstone lights. But I think it should require a special tool to actually cut the blocks, otherwise it would take incredibly long to dig a mineshaft.
Other than that its a pretty nice idea.

There aren't that many blocks of differing sizes in Minecraft, know why? It doesn't work. Shaving pieces off a block sounds good in thought, but think about it some more, How do these blocks attach themselves to others? Floating itsy-bitsy blocks don't look good at all.
In fact, smaller blocks whatsoever simply look bad. That's why farmland looks so weird when you put in in your inventory through mods or creative mode. It simply doesn't look right.

What do you mean? If I understand this correctly, you thought that you can only cut the blocks, no, you can still destroy them by left-clicking.

Nevermind, I just misunderstood the idea. Mybad, lol.

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
