I would like to see a chisel implemented in the game. It is a new tool made of iron. The key point of the chisel is that when used on stone, it gives you a stone block, not cobblestone. This makes it easier to produce solid stone. Another feature of a chisel is that it can be used on ice to produce ice blocks.
That would make it too spam effecient
And cobblestone actually looks nice in my texture pack

So you wake up on a beach one day, and remember NOTHING. (Except your degree teachings in Engineering, Wilderness Survival, Metal work, Physics, Tech, Psychology, History, Dynamics, and Blocks.) You mine and build and survive for years and years.
How is it spam efficient? Think about it - in real life when you want stone blocks, you don't melt stone. You quarry it. Having to smelt cobblestone to get stone is annoying and time consuming. This tool is a time-saver (and fuel saver). Since it is only made of metal, it isn't available right off the bat. You have to work a bit to get it. The speed could be a bit slower than a pick as an offset, which, again, would mimic real life. Add to all this that the ability to get ice blocks with it would make ice sculptures possible. I think it would be a great addition.
I hate having to spend time smelting cobble into stone. It has never felt right to me. There are times I want to build in stone rather than cobble, such as for stone floors.
Chisel should allow you to remove any stone block, ore block, ice, and stone brick, without damaging the block and in the case of stone brick, without disturbing silverfish to cause you a living hell.
However, this tool should take 3-5 times longer than each of its pick axe counterparts (yeah, why not have chisels in all current materials?) to achieve this goal. Precision jobs take more time so it makes sense.
Then, pickaxes need to be fixed so they smash ore blocks into pieces. You should always get gold nuggets/iron nuggets from mining gold ore/iron ore. Lapis makes dye drops, Redstone ore makes redstone, and diamond ore gives you the diamond, so why not have the same for iron and gold ore blocks?
