Hello forum people, you yourself is unique right? I mean, everybody has their own skin, their own creations and their own preference gamestyles. Some try to avoid killing while others revel in it. Some love to build while others want to change the view of the surroundings. We all have preferences and I thought about Science and Arts and how many people pursue either one. I thought 'Why not do it in Minecraft?'.
And this thread came into existence.
There are 5 Sciences and Arts. You may choose to pick one Science or Art. You can actually have all Sciences and Arts but you wouldn't go that far unless you were a HARDCORE, DEDICATED, TO THE DEATH Minecraft player, I suggest choosing one Art or Science at a time if your goal is mastery of it.
Each Science and Art gives you a set of knowledge and skills that make things easier to do in that department. For example, Metalworking lets you create better weapons, armor and metal oriented things while War gives you more combat skill and ability.
This isn't really gamebreaking or anything, this would give you a hobby in Minecraft (If your hobby is playing Minecraft, you'd have two hobbies in one go!). If I told you couldn't make anything that others can't it would make you feel unimportant or somewhat bland. Well Minecraft needs more working people (Right now we only have builders, merchants and fighters). We can have more people working their stuff in Minecraft, perfecting their Art or Science until it has reached that capacity and where you can unleash your ultimate power from that Art or Science.
It is imperative that every Minecraft Player who takes up the art shall be vowed to secrecy so that other people cannot escalate. And if they tried to create something that they haven’t learned yet, they instantly die and their stuff disappears. It is the hard punishment for those guys that want the easy way.
For Science!
If you are interested in Science, you may continue looking.
Science starts from a "Intelligence" Item found in dungeons, Ruins or Strongholds. Image:It's the circling thingy in the box, not including the stone background. You can use it (right click) and see a GUI showing 5 pictures representing each Scientific class. For Chemicals, the flask. For Metalwork, the hammer. For Machines, the gear. For Life & Death, a half black-half white skull. For Magic, a purple diamond shaped star.
Choose one of those to unlock the knowledge. You then will receive a Tech Table, the crafting bench for Science. You can create things related to your SubScience on that while others can use it for their SubScience.
Chemistry; The Power of Alchemists
Chemistry focuses on effects bestowed from vials or liquids or anything that causes an effect to something. A good alchemist can turn stone to gold blocks while a bad one can turn his house into dirt.
Alchemists have access to flasks and vials that he can use for collecting liquids. When killing a mob it may have a chance of dropping an ingredient for your use. Endermen are a special case since you can get any needed drop you want from them, though randomly. This applies to all Arts and Sciences.
Here is a list of all ingredients:
>Spider Venom-Spiders, Endermen
>Creeper Spores-Creepers, Endermen
>Black Blood-Zombies, Endermen
>Dead Muscle-Skeleton, Endermen
>Mucus-Pigs, Endermen
>Digestive Juices-Cows, Endermen
>Mercury-Silverfish, Endermen
Combining these with a vial or flask in the Tech Table creates a vial. I won't give any specifics so IF Notch releases it, only he would know it (Unless he posts it.)
Soon if Notch adds more content to Minecraft, more ingredients will follow and thus a crazy new combination of vials. A dedicated Alchemist that wants to be good at his Science would have to be forced to explore far and wide, searching for the rarer and more valuable ingredients. It's the lifestyle dictated by every Alchemist. Metalwork; The Tinkering Blacksmiths
Metalworkers prefer creating improved stuff like better buckets and more durable swords. Stuff like that. They can create a hammer from the Tech Table or even a Crafting Bench. People CAN be blacksmiths even without the "Intelligence" item but they have can only repair and create backup stuff. Real blacksmiths can:
>Repair-With a few ingots, wood or stone he can add some extra durability. If real ingots are used it completely repairs.
>Backup Items-He can create weaker versions of the real weapons with using one material needed and the stick. It has HALF the durability of the real thing.
>Upgrading Weapons-With the right equipment the Blacksmith can add more powerful ingots to the item and add it a higher durability and power level.
>Powerful Weaponry-He can forge long reaching spears, reaping Scythes and Powerhouse warhammers.
>Multipurpose Armor-Armor that can has a chest on it? You got it. Slowly increasing running speed armor? Here ya go.
A Blacksmith needs several specialized equipment and has to have Patience as his creations need specific treatments and such. You may want to create some huge forge or something since some equipment take more than two blocks. You would probably be more inside some building that outside. Unless you work outdoors.
Machines; The Ingenious Inventors
Inventors use gears, Pistons, Levers, Pulleys, Rotating joints, Seesaws and other parts to create a wonderful moving base or a self reloading TNT cannon or an automatic Wood Cart assembly. Inventors can craft several different materials they can piece together to create wonders. That's what's unique with Inventors. They place things in the game world than in a crafting table or GUI, unlike others. This is also a bad thing as the creations usually take space.
Life & Death; The Biologists
These guys focus on poisons and healing. They can be a great healer or a really bad assassin. They are like Alchemists but their specialty is health. They have the same vial and ingredients but they have totally different abilities. For example, a Biologist can poison or improve food, or change the look of his item (Pixel manipulation). Note that prolonged exposure to a Biologists equipment can cause health loss so Biologists are forced to take down some of their health Potions if they wish to remain unharmed while performing their work.
Magic; Them Wizards
Magic has the same goal as Inventors except this is more faster to do and is short term. Machines can let you create a Gondola to travel to other places easier while Magic can let you teleport a few times to reach the same distance. Temporary, but faster.
Magic uses Mana as most games do. Mana has it's own box in the bottom right in the inventory. You can use that Mana in the Tech Table to learn skills and such as Transparency and Teleportation. Some spells require time and a constant flow of Mana. If the spell is too costly you will have a decreased Mana storage. Losing Mana means you become a Flux. Fluxes lose their spell casting properties unless receiving the Mana Storage spell from another person. Fluxes still have a magical power within them so you can use them to bolster your Mana capacity and power.
Now you can do more than one of each of these, making you quite a powerful guy. Note that each ability has it's weaknesses. If you take another, not only the abilities you will take, but also the weaknesses. Some are contradicting enough for you not to become efficient in either one.
This ends the Science Part.
For Arts!
For those Art lovers you may continue
Art, unlike Science that requires sacrifice (G.I. Joe quote win!) Art only require s your time and creativity. You can find at least a single Rainbow Orb after a Rain or at the same places where "Intelligence" items are found.
You can use it to choose from 5 different signs signifying their SubArts. It's a sword for War. For Poetry & Music, a flute. For Writing, a feather pen. For Gardening, a seed. For Color, a Paintbrush.
Upon choosing you will receive the symbol you have chosen.
War; From Soldier to Generals
The Art of War gives you a better fighting availability, see Improving Combat Thread.
Poetry & Music; The Rhyming Bards
So the Bards could maybe create instruments and play Music like note blocks. They could use a recorder on the instruments GUI to save that tune on you, meaning only you knows that tune. They can access that tune on any instrument and somehow add the current instruments tune to it, thus making it possible to create your very own symphony in Minecraft (Coughconcerts).
Writers; Authors, Keepers of Knowledge.
Well anyone can write with specially crafted bookshelves and ink pen and something and have to make books, Authors can make the current bookshelves functional with the books automatically stocked, saving the trouble. They can make a writers table with drawers, two bookshelves, an ink pot and a scroll holder. That in all would take 5 blocks (Two on top, three below.). These let them ease their work because the thing comes with the Ink pot, which easily re inks your feather pen, and all you need are feathers to write now with the Ink. You also have paper on the drawers, as well as blank books and empty scrolls. Have fun writing down history, recipes, poetry or even your experiences!
Gardening; Planters Replenish
So Planters can plant wonderful, beautiful plants such as Moonshade that grows at night and is stunning to look at. There are lots of plants Planters can make, beautifying places. The person can offer his or her services to help spread nature. Having lots of different plants, flowers and crops is quite something. They also can plant a Life Tree, which when grows attracts lots of peaceful mobs that CAN BE MADE PETS. Who doesn't want cute puppies, kittens or adorable poison snakes?
Color; What Painters Love
Painters need a simple painting sheet and they can make wonderful paintings. They can also change the look of items, changing the pixel look. It cannot add new pixels it only can change the color. They can also 'tint' blocks, making their wood red to that of a farmhouse and such etc.
Sounds like fun for SMP, but doesn't this limit the players? I like the fact that there is a goal in mind, mastering all the skills..
I like it, but at the same time I don't. Being as a gamemode, it would be interesting. Replacing the current gameplay with this sounds like a total overhaul of the game. I do feel that I lean more towards red stone engineering, but at the same time I feel my farming is unmatched. Sometimes my red stone engineering helps my farming. I sort like being able to do anything.
Maybe if choosing a path would give a slight advantage in that field without the disadvantages in other fields, I would go for this.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"If it already has been done then it can be done again" or
"If its a mod its possible to be a feature"

Science requires some disadvantages but Arts requires skill and your time. Only Science limits you in a way. SCIENCE REQUIRES SACRIFICE! :biggrin.gif:
