I have seen a number of topics on Adventure mode, but, from my experience most have been quite mindless. Thus, though this topic has already been discussed, I though I could help make it less brain-dead. (This would be a new game mode)
So, to kick this off, the start of the "story". Your character awakes at night on a beach. You have no recollection of this place. Grabbing an Iron sword and a bow, you lift yourself to your feet. A large sunken vessel lies in the water. Your only solution seems to be to fight the endless hordes of zombies that charge your position on the beach. The night will not end, and zombies continually spawn. When one dies, another immediately spawns. Alongside these replacements, every 15 seconds, 10 more zombies are added to the group. This means, that, though you have an infinite diamond sword and a bow with unlimited arrows, you will die, especially seeing as you would have a limited area to move around in. A zombie tears across your back. Only a little bit of life left in you. Another hit as you swing to attack the first. Suddenly, another. Then one more, two more, until you are overwhelmed. Through your slowly closing eyes, you see a group of armed men rush forward. Closing your eyes, you are lifted from the ground as day breaks.
When you awake, you are inside a house in a small village. The town would have two homes, a well, and one farm. A man greets you. He welcomes you to their humble town. Then, he tells you the town's predicament: They are a small village, and many larger towns, and even the Great Empires magnificent cities, are nearby. The village would be easy pickings, especially if the Necrolord decided to send his hordes in the night. The people of this town see you as someone from one of the Lands across the World Pond, a vast ocean separating this continent from your home. They know you may be the cities only hope, and understand that the other towns can offer you much more. But, you are begged to help them.
The villagers here would be "Steve's". Other towns would be inhabited by Testificates, Steves, or Pigmen. The aforementioned 'Necrolord' is the ruler of the world below, the cavernous homes of the dead. Though, an even greater threat rises, in the form of the King of the Nether, whose armies of Blazes, once united again, will rain destruction and fire on the world. And, there is something strange about this town; something inexplicable, something you can't put your mind on.
The 'Great Empires' that were mentioned are three enormous kingdoms that control most of the land in this new continent. Across the World Pond, your Land is sending a fleet, with its finest warriors, to this new land. The Three Empires fight among each other and the smaller villages. From the hills come the raiders, warriors who take what they want or need instead of making it themselves.
Your immediate goal is to help the towns people expand the city. An Architect lives in the city. You may request him to build certain structures, though you must supply him the materials to make it. At the blacksmith, you can have weapons and armor made, at a price. A Barracks allows you to gather troops and equip and organize them. Later though, the issue of the Netherking arises. The great prophet of Adulian, the capital of the Empire of Men (steves), says that the Nether Portialis cannot be held in check much longer. The Portialis is a large Nether Ruin in the overworld, though without any spawners. It is placed above an enormous crater of Netherak, right in the center. Several bridges lead to the fort. The Warrior Priests from the Empire of Men guard it. When the Portialis is breached, it becomes the base for the Netherking. If you beat the Netherking back, he leaves his forces in the Portialis. They occasionally venture out, and other Portatials (Portal forts) are made during the invasion. After he is beaten, there will be random events where a large breakout will occur. The Netherking never returns, but during a 'breakout', large numbers of the Netherkings forces are sent out.

Is this a suggestion for a new game mode? Or a change to the existing adventure mode? Or an adventure map you are working on?
I dunno, it sounds too complex for vanilla MC, but a new mode with some story wouldn't be bad.
There is no current Adventure mode, so, yes, I guess that would make it a new mode.

There is no current Adventure mode, so, yes, I guess that would make it a new mode.
