With the inclusion of the status of "food poisoning" several ideas came to mind which expanded into several more ideas and I figured I might as well put some of them down here. Let me know if these have been posted somewhere before and I'll be sure to not to try taking credit for them :tongue.gif:
Anyways, as everyone should know most food goes bad if it isn't stored in a proper container and when food goes bad, eating it can have disastrous effects. Food goes rotten, gets infected with bacteria, etc and this can really cause problems for the digestive tract. So would it not make sense if perishable food stored in your inventory went bad after X amount of time? Say you're carrying around a whole bunch of raw chicken. What the heck do you THINK is gonna happen to it? Its sure not gonna keep just hanging out in your pocket. So I suggest after some amount of time raw foods turn into "Rotten Flesh" and can then poison you if you eat it.
Of course to avoid this you could cook it but even cooked food goes bad so it could turn rotten as well or something similar.
So to avoid the whole rotten food incident, why not add in a "Fridge" sort of block? its 1x1x2 that opens like a storage chest and has an inventory that preserves food indefinitely. Construction could be something like this:
So essentially a storage chest made out of iron. I can see that design being used for something like a lockbox or something similar in the future so its just an idea and I'm sure something else could be designed if it was desired but that'll do for now.
This would add another challenge element to the game (albeit not a super challenge but one none the less) and to me would be yet another interesting addition. Of course food items like bread could last longer/indefinitely without being stored but that's up to opinion.
I just can't see why we would need a fridge. :sad.gif:
For "realistic" (trololol minecraft realistic...) purposes. Raw food simply doesn't keep unless, as you said, its super salted. And even then normally what they did was keep the animal alive until they needed the food from em. This required domesticating them first and currently (as near as I can tell) Minecraft doesn't have that particular mechanic programmed in yet.
Until I can corral a cow and not have it disappear after I leave so many blocks away I will need to have raw/cooked food hanging around somewhere, so why not a fridge?
1000% agree, would be fun plus on servers ud be able to have a normal store to sell food, since some people are away alot and cant store all that food!

Sounds like a plan to me. I haven't been on many SMP servers in a while but wtf do you use as currency anyways? I'd guess gold bars but I have no idea lol.

Of course they didn't have fridges.
Nor did they have pistons. Or noteboxes. Or record players.
See what I'm getting at?

Raw meat = Hunger+ and Poison for 8 seconds
Cooked meat = Hunger++
