We already have On fire, food Poisoning, and Poisoned, so what abour a few more? Here are a few examples of what im talking about:
Frozen: If in a tundra biome while it's snowing without armor on, you get frozen. You get frozen in place for a short period of time, maybe 10-30 seconds. While frozen, you have 5 armour points, but are vanurable (IDK if that's how you spell that) to mobs.
Stunned: If struck by lightning, the same partilcle effects used on a creeper can be used on the player, but basicly, it makes your movement slow and twitchy, you lose a 1/2 a heart every few seconds, and if you get in water, all the water in a 10 block radius deals damage to any mob in it (exept the creeper, they get Uber-charged).
Fungus: you are infested with the fungal parasite that mooshrooms have. It obscures you vision, making everything swirl and distort. You have to burn it off, or use sheers.
Cursed: Endermen and ghasts curse you. When your cursed, all damage you take are registered as critical hits.
Thats all. Well, they arn't gold, but if you can modify them to make it gold, go ahead.
Fungus awwwww yeah I like it. WHen you're fully infested you drop all your items and you turn into a monster, you have to burn yourself to get your items back.
Well rested: Sprinting for first minute after you sleep doesn't drop your hunger bar.
Bloodthirsty: Improved critical chance for 5 seconds after killing a monster
Unburdened: Improved speed if half your inventory is empty.

COol! maybe the bloodthirsty/ragemode effect can be caused when you crit a monster/player 3 times in a row!

Overkill: Your character will instantly target the next mob, now blind with rage (Despite distance, and he won't make any attempt to avoid that creeper behind him)
Paranoid: Occurs after being killed/seeing so many mobs, Steve will randomly walk in the wrong direction, do a different action, or will just run away from random items (Can be cured by a potion of some sort?)
Dead: You are dead. Not big suprise.
Overjoy: You now can use your meelee weapons at 20x the needed range, but in return, you are killed upon taking any form of damage, up tot he point to where falling from 3 blocks is considered fatal.
Confident: Gained after placing so many block sin a row, mining so many blocks in a row, or basically doing anything productive. Your character will now obtain 5x the ore they would get if mining, 3x the wood if chopping down a tree, and will avoid damage for a short while.
Overeater: You abuse food so much, you will eat 3 random things in your inventory! Note that some items will cause damage, by the way.
Insane: A notch up from Paranoid (YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH), Steve will now lose ALL control. He will drop all of his items, and turn into a mob. You will get a game over screen, and the Mob Steve becomes 3x as agile as before.
Starver: You don't eat so much food that you start to hallucinate. When crafting, it will seem as if you have items you don't, and while attacking as well.

Cursed I think should only happen on Hard or something.
Frozen I don't like because what if you spawn IN a snow biome or near one and you get frozen and stuck in the biome, forcing you to make a new world.
