With the eventual addition of bosses in vanilla Minecraft, I'd like to suggest, like for near end game content and epic style (and more reason to get awesome texture packs), boss pelt armor.
Now there will be different bosses, but neither Jeb nor Notch has confirmed any bosses and their appearences.
So I will make some up :smile.gif: (Note these bosses will spawn in strongholds only)
NetherJack: (drop: Nethercloak, not really a pelt, but Jack wears it over his bones)
An 8 foot (4 block) tall skeleton with a pumpkin for a head, and when it's about to attack, it's face lights up like a Jack'o'lantern. It has a hulking stone sword that is as big as the player and it's attack radius is 2 blocks in all directions if NetherJack does a spin attack. NetherJack stomps slowly around the stronghold and will duck through doors or just smash them, potentially releasing a swarm of those pesky silverfish. NetherJack, when defeated, drops four bones, a jack'o'lantern, two sticks, four cobble, and a Nethercloak. It is dark brown and is like a poncho with a hood. When you go into the Nether, this cloak grants you controlling of the zombie pigmen, and you can use these pigmen pawns to raid nether ruins to claim your nether treasure.
NetherJack's Story:
Once, long ago in Minecraftia, there was an evil survivor named... Jack. He raided NPC villages and stole their food, and killed anything that moved. Jack was a brute and it is even legend he ate the NPC's he killed. One fateful night, Jack was feasting on his butchered chickens, cows, and pigs. He was huge-bellied and full. He decided to have a laydown on his soft woolen bed. Then he heard the door open. He opened his eyes and saw the door swaying back and forth. He silently got up, picked up his stone sword and queitly closed the door. Suddenly, when he had just turned around, he was beheaded by a troop of big nosed NPC's. They cheered as they got their revenge. Now... where do bad people go when they perish? The Nether, of course. Jack woke up headless on a slimy netherrack surface. unable to see or hear, only touch and feel. Jack was so frightened he blindly ran into the nearest nether ruin. He ran for hours down the endless nether brick halls. He grew tired and fell asleep. He woke up to a terrifying blaze of heat. A pack of Blazemen, glowing with RAGE. He got up instrantly and ran, but felt 3 burning hot spheres hit his back, he collapsed, yelling and screaming through his neck as his flesh was burning away. As he was sufferering the Blazemen kept hitting his burning body with fireballs over and over until he was bones. But no one dies once already dead, so he lay there unable to scream as his vocal chords had singed away. Headless and fleshless, he crawled until his neck hit a wooden chest. Out of curiosity, he felt for the latch and opened the chest. He felt rugged cloth on his bones. He automatically put the cloak on and felt a surge of power through his bones and tendons. He stood up, filled with power, put his hood over his neck and felt his way out. He finally escaped the seemingly endless nether castle. When he was out he kept feeling for things, sad he has to spend eternity in the nether. His fingers felt burning flesh and he knew what it was, a zombie pigman. The zombie pigmen accepted him as their own and took care of him forever. For years, he lived with them, until he decided he wanted to control them. He cast them out on all hell creatures, magma cubes, ghasts, and blazemen. They killed them and ate them. Until they were almost gone. But suddenly, he was cast out of the Nether forever because of his merciless violence. He then grabbed a pumpkin and could see again. He lives in strongholds and can't find his way out, killing whatever wanders into his domain.
Silverfish Queen: (drop: 3 silverfish eggs, 8 silverfish pelts)
Now this is one annoying and disgusting boss. This 4 times larger silverfish can burrow through blocks, making huges holes in the ground, which players can travel through to navigate the silverfish queen. The queen doesn't attack, it only releases her silverfish workers to do the job, her objective is to protect her babies. She can release silver fish by either burrowing (through stone brick, releasing swarms), or opening her gaping mouth like an enderman and releasing workers. When she moves around he pumps slime of of her *hmmhmm*, as a defensive reflex, and leaves slippery slime trails that players slip and fall on. It's best to avoid these. This makes it hard to follow the queen through tunnels she burrows through. She can burrow up onto the surface and fight you there but she will not be there for long, and she will burrow back into the ground, making you abandon the treasure-rich stronghold. Once you hit her four times, she explodes in a shower of eggs, pelts, and slime. Once you get the pelts, you can craft armor out of it like any other armor. And it's so worth killing her since wearing one item made of this pelt makes silverfish follow you and defend you. Once you take the armor off, they won't attack you, just burrow away from you and leave you alone to mine. If you need them again just put the armor on (near any silverfish nest) and they will come to defend. Good for future bossfights as distractions. Oh, and silverfish eggs can be thrown, and it will lure silverfish away from you, as they rush to retrieve their baby.
The Librarian (drops: 9 books, Enchanter robe, 1 diamond)
This is another 4 block tall creepy hunchback librarian. He has pale grey skin and side hair but he is bald. He has grey eyes and can teleport. He does not run for you though, he eerily stand near books shelves, emitting books from them with his ghost powers. Each book, on impact, does 2 hearts on you so you must hide behind bookshelves and only get him when close enough. You sneak up on his and hit him once or twice, he then looks at you then quickly teleports. He teleports behind you and does a powerful slap at you, and sends you flying backwards, like when a tank hits you in L4D, you see your feet. He teleports again and tries to kill you with books. He is very powerful and is very hard. Is usually killed in 10 hits with a diamond sword. SUPER end game material. Enchanter cloak helps you have more chance of having more powerful enchantments when using enchanter tables. The books and diamonds provide some materials for making the tables themselves.
The Librarian's Story:
Legend states that the mysterious Librarian, only spawning in the vast libraries of strongholds, was once a prosperous and rich man, making vast amounts of diamonds from selling books. He was happy. So happy. Until one day, the evil Jack raided his library, hoping to find enchantment tables for his stone sword. He killed all the people reading, including The Librarian himself. Jack did not even find what he wanted, and left the library, laughing in pity. The Librarian, being a wizard, cursed Jack as he left, cursing him so when he perishes, he goes straight down to HELL. He died, then wanders around his once prosperous library, moaning in agony, remembering his once great past. He doesn't want anyone distrubing him as he grieves, so he kills them. It is said, once defeated as a spirit, he will peacefully move on, into the glorious and beautiful Aether where he will linger in the heavenly libraries and read again.
Pharoah Worm
(drops: 9 sandstone, 1 diamond block, Pharoah's crown)
This hulking beast is more of a land structure than a boss. This mighty boss sleeps in the hot deserts of Minecraftia. It's slaying will grant excellent rewards, including diamonds. Now this creature sleeps with it's mouth open, laying down on the hot sand. It will look like a cave from afar, but once you get close you see a large vein of diamond ore. This is a hunting technique for the Pharoah Worm, it lures survivors in. Once inside, the entrance of the "cave" encloses, making it dark. The player will have to mine his way out of the beast. The beast has sandstone flesh and is easily escapable if you are equipped well. If you successfully escape it's mouth, he does a war cry and chasing after you, trying to engulf you in it's mouth and digest you. It slithers across the sand as fast as the human walks. If you sprint you can easily escape, but if you escape that means no diamonds, or crown... The Pharoah worm, if he swallows you again, will then close his mouth and try to flood his mouth with water making you drown. This water, or saliva, will move very fast and flood quickly so you must make haste. But on his third try you want to get swallowed. Once you get swallowed, the worm's esophagus will be opened, it's lined with diamond ore so it's hard to break through from the top (which you can ride on for smooth desert cruising.) Once you make your way down the esophagus you'll find it's beating hard. It's armored with spikes and hurts you when too close. All you need to do is break the heart open, revealing dark red blood, and it gushes out of the heart. The blood is like acid, so you must escape. The blood streams fast, so you must exit out the open hole in the back of the worm, its *hmmhmm*. Once out, you can watch the worm as it chokes on his own blood. It squirms a bit, and collapses, and it's eyes close shut and you can mine it's sandstone flesh and the diamonds inside it. As you can tell it's major end-game ****. The heart will be made of flesh blocks and can be mashed up and used as fertilizer or can be cut up into slices for you to eat. As for the third loot, it's the remains of a past fool. The Pharoah Diamohah. He clumsily built camp in the beast's mouth and was digested, all that was left of him was his crown, and it held great power. It is only worn by a person of pure heart, and that's you. Once worn, the crown can be used to control NPC's in villages and make them build with you, make better trading offers, or just make them give you things out of loyalty. This is the toughest boss I could think of, by this I mean tough to beat and to code. I've seen the zeppelin mod and how the blocks move so I'm sure it can be put into the game, it would just be real hard.
