A long time ago I remember being excited about a zombie siege mode, or something of that nature. To combat the complacency one develops after building a killer house, mobtraps, farms, getting a ton of iron and diamond, I want to see more aggresive mobs. I want to see hordes of sombies and skeletons surrounding my home, I want to see creepers throwing themselves at my walls and traps in a desperate attempt to kill me and clear passage for their brethren, I want to see regiments of spider jockeys climbing my walls. I want to see endermen taking my walls apart and building paths for their compatriots to get to my defences!
The ai needs to be more agressive, they need to be more active, at least optionally, they need to be an active threat rather than a passive one. after a while, it become to easy to insulate oneself against mobs. I would be pleased it made more difficult. Now I'm not saying everyone should have to play this, but as an option for likeminded players...
perhaps there is already a mod that accomplishes it please let me know if you agree/disagree

I feel that once in a MineCraft Month (30 Minecraft Days, each day/night cycle is about 16 minutes or so) an orange moon will rise in the place of the White One, and this will trigger a more effective pathfinding/aggression mode which can also increase the spawn rate nearer to the player. This will cause them to spawn in the nearest space of darkness nearby, and cause the "Zombie Seige."
Yes, this, I want this. I also like the idea of the more environmentally destructive mobs (Creapers and endermen) intentionally trying to create a path to the player when there isn't one. I want a better minion then snow golems and wolves though. Some sort of town guard for the npc villages would also be nice if you decided to hide in or near a village.
though this is in violation of the thread rules, if someone does know a mod, I would like to know about it
I use CustomDifficulty on my server which allows you to set the monsters HP, damage and spawn rates. It's pretty challenging when the zombies take 4-5 hits to kill with iron weapons and they deal so much damage that your armors don't last very long.
Just google it and you should find it on Bukkit somewhere.

Why not just count kills/time. If this ratio gets high, Monsters start to spawn with pre/suffixes or armor which makes them stronger, also increase max number of hostile mobs....
It would nerf Monsterspawners ( self built ones) a bit, since they would make outside monsters incredibly strong over time. Also you could just go on a killing spree to trigger it.
