Although the nether is now much more interesting, It needs something worthwhile that isn't just for aesthetic value, but for necessity! The block could be used in a set of tool slightly less durable and effective as diamond. It could be used in creating the Lens Block by Lord Penguin, replacing the diamond. It would probably be as common as iron, maybe slightly less. Possibly a ruby block? Any more ideas?
Notch has stated in his twitter that he does not care to ever implement ores into the Nether.
In the normal world, this might work as an idea, but your only explanation for its uses is an existing mod. :dry.gif:

Did he? I never saw that, and the Lens Block isn't a mod. I also stated it could be used as a set of tools that are above iron.

Oh, didnt see that it doesnt exist as a mod...
Set of tools above iron = diamond. It's not as rare as you think.
I think that rubies should last as long as diamond but have the breaking speed of wood tools. :unsure.gif:
Interesting thought, that might actually be rather cool. A quick digging item that wears down fast.
In fact, that's gold. They break anything even faster than diamond.
What I mean is it lasts as long as diamond buts breaks blocks slower than wood, the polar opposite of gold.
