Proposal: Blocks adjacent to lava glow with light level 5.
Pros: Significantly enhance the illumination effect of lava. Less deaths from unexpectedly mining into lava. You could illuminate areas with lava behind a wall.
Cons: Mining into lava is one of the 'major dangers' in mining, reduction of this risk could be seen as making the game 'easier.'
Hm, There are positives and negatives to this. I like the proposal, but I do feel that it would make mining too easy by removing the primary threat. However, I like the thought of being able to have walls light up by placing lava behind them and agree that it would make lava feel more lava-y. I have mixed feelings.

Notes: Apparently gain strength when fed, statements become more annoying and make less sense.
Thought through better, this would be an ok suggestion. Instead of having the nearby blocks glow (that doesn't make much sense, as light does not pass through stone) instead have a "magma vein" block that spawns next to lava pools, looks like stone but has veins of magma passing through it. Emits low level light (level 5). Use for decoration like moss stone :biggrin.gif:
I dnt think hes sugesting that light would pass through the rock. When rock is heated to high temps it radiates light
Okay let's shift it up a bit. What if the light level was only 3? That means that you won't see the glow in a room you've got lit up with torches, the blocks would have to be practically completely dark to notice this glow. Thus when you look into a new area you'd have an idea where the lava is, but as you get closer and light up the place you'll have to remember because you can't see that glow anymore.

Sets fire to nearby stuff. I think I like it.

Medieval builder and texture artists. Also totally awesome.

Yeah but at that point it is almost a liquid. A magma vein block compensates for this, makes a glowing half-melted block that is still solid.
Anyway, glowing stone blocks would look weird.
