I felt that the villagers in the pre-release currently are completely unacceptable. Now, before you dismiss this as another hate speech against them, read on.
I don't hate them specifically because of their looks.
I dislike them because of the difficulty, it would seem, to skin them. The monsters and mobs and players in minecraft are generally easy to customize and change to what you like best. The villagers? Not quite.
If you're like me, who loves making his own textures in game, then you might agree. Especially if you don't like the villager appearance.
My proposition would be, at the creation of each map, would be (underneath of the "generate structures" option) a switch that you could use to set the models of the villagers, choices being testificates and a human/pigman model (anything similar to player model). The villagers would behave in the same way regardless of what model would be used.
I'm not a programmer, so I would not know how difficult this would be. But, using my sense, I feel that it wouldn't be that strenuous on the code if it was decided at the creation of each map.
uhh... i dunno what to say, but they're so wierd looking it makes it seem like steve is on an alien planet, one that is flat. like the people of the past used to think of earth.
Testificates are just placeholders. If you serperate that "word", it becomes Test-ificate. This most likely means they are testers, to see how the react. Also, not they are not aggressive if you attack them as the should be. They'll probably give them another model in 1.9 full. What do you think?

Steve? As in the robot from "Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy?" Steve? But anyway, it seems like that could be possible, but they seem to serve no practical purpose.

I thought our characters name was simply our own? Or perhaps "Herobrine's (Alive) Brother"? Maybe even Bob. Steve sounds... to formal and stuffy. =(
