My suggestion:
Whenever a chest opens, it's lid goes up and hits the wall behind, right?
So what if, when there is a button on the wall behind the lid, the chest would "click" it? (Of course it would be like a lever, not a button, since the lid stays in place until you close the chest.)
This way, when someone opens your chest in SMP he will activate a trap!
And in SP, you could have note blocks play a nice tune when you open the chest (Like Zelda!).
I've always thought that you should be able to make trap chests, that can power redstone hidden behind it, so the idea is the same, but does not require a button.
I'd like it better if chests could be "locked" by redstone, or could on opening activate redstone by itself. That way it's possible to set a trap on (de)activation of that.
It's a great idea, actually!
But you probably need to make a new thread for that.

It will look like this:

only with a button instead of a lever.
So, what do you think?
I like to give +1's out to the grammatically inclined.

Does anyone have a good idea for a trap built with this?
