Ever been in a situation, where you couldn't get those few other blocks of the tree? You're not gonna do any crazy parkour to get to them, and you don't want to place any dirt down, either? So you just let it float there, plaguing your mind... Letting it taunt you; mercilessly!
You may have already guessed it, but this suggestion is for falling/toppling tree's! Haven't you ever dreamed of chopping a down a tree in Minecraft, and having it fall over; the whole tree? Then needing to be chopped up into logs on the ground? Well, if you have; then vote up this post, contribute some ideas/criticism, and offer what you can to help get this into the game (Either through a mod, or by Notch taking the suggestion!)
Concept for the mod/feature;
If you break block #2 of any tree (The log directly above the trunk/bottom block); the item drops for that block normally, the trunk/bottom block stays like normal, but the rest of the tree falls over onto the ground.
The top half of the tree will fall either towards, or away from the player; a falling/snapping wood sound will play before the tree actually falls; perhaps a warning icon/buff (In 1.9) could appear
If you remove the block below the trunk/bottom block of a tree, the tree will fall through the hole (And hopefully not on you!).
You may have noticed, I referred to this suggestion as a future mod. That is because I know this has been suggested before, and is unlikely to be implemented by Notch. I have already taken it upon myself to learn how to make mods for Minecraft, code Java, and do some Pixel Art - all so that I can have this feature in the game. I've always wanted tree's to behave like this, and often wondered why they never did - I honestly expected this to be the way tree's worked when I first played Minecraft.
If you like this concept, vote up this post!
If you have skills in Pixel Art, I need a banner for this suggestion/future mod! If you have experience modding, or coding Java; and want to see this in the game - reply to the thread or PM me!
I've heard of this mod before, but never tried it or really looked at it. Do the trees actually fall over? Or does all the wood just fall on the ground like in Terraria?

That mod just turns the log block above the one you cut into items.

It's okay. And now I remember why I never tried Timber, I looked at it before and disliked it. I actually don't like the concept of the tree just turning into items. I actually want the tree to fall over, and still have to be cut up. This is just my way of fixing the floating tree pieces issue (Especially when you get huge pine trees), and also of adding more game-play. Although I appreciate you trying to help Aweshum, it just isn't what I'm looking for.
Although, maybe I could use Timber as a base mod for my idea. I'll probably end up borrowing the code it uses to scan for the rest of the blocks of the tree that you cut.
I don't want to sound like too much of a ***** when I say this, but it's bugging me so I gotta...
If you're too damn lazy to place down a few blocks of dirt to mine the rest of the tree, you have no right to complain about the floating tree plaguing your mind. Put down the dirt, mine the tree, pick up dirt; problem solved.
As far as having a tree fall down? Uhh... No.
Here's a few reasons:
1) Endermen can destroy a treehouse by moving the log block.
2) Griefers can destroy a treehouse by moving the log block.
3) The player can unintentionally destroy a treehouse by moving the log block.
4) There is no way to determine the tree's fall direction
5) What happens to the logs if there is an obstruction in the path of the fall? Like a cliff?
6) What happens if the logs fall into lava? Forest fire? You bet!
So, verdict? Stop being damn lazy, place the logs under you as needed as you gather the logs above you and clean up below you again.
oke so you want it for trees. But i think that if you do this trees more blocks need to be gravetie affected or it would looj strange
Not so much. I just can't stand floating tree pieces. Not to mention cutting down 20 block tall Pine Tree's is a pain in the ***. There's something about it. Ironically, I LOVE floating islands and the likes.

Dirt scaffolding is; annoying, time consuming. AND WHAT IF YOU DON'T GOT DIRT?
Enderman destroying your tree-house would be hilarious! Besides, who builds tree-houses anymore? It's all about 'dem Giant Mushroom houses!
The onus for that would be on them, for installing the mod; and then failing to be aware of their surroundings
I have already built on that area of the concept, your argument is invalid
The logs of the tree would be placed accordingly to compensate, I thought that was obvious.
If the log falls into lava, well... It burns.
If there is a forest fire? Well, have you ever seen a forest fire? There is falling, flaming debris EVERYWHERE!
It seems your analysis of the concept was based more on your assumption that I'm lazy, and that I don't use dirt scaffolding, than on your opinion of the concept itself.
I will concede the annoying part, but time consuming? *jump* *place under* *jump* *place under*, pillaring is easier created than destroyed, and then, not even.

Again, it's a personal thing, you may not, I know I do and I also know I'm not alone.
The onus for that would be on them, for installing the mod; and then failing to be aware of their surroundings
That does have an air of personal responsibility, but it is impossible to be completely aware 100% of the time. Hell, I can't fathom being completely aware at any point of time.
I have already built on that area of the concept, your argument is invalid
Have you? You may wish to make that a bit more definite. I have seen how it falls either toward or away from you; but I have seen no actual plan for obstructions that may be in the way.
The logs of the tree would be placed accordingly to compensate, I thought that was obvious.
I am not you, I do not think the same as you. Nothing is obvious. How would the tree be placed? What if the tree was at the bottom of a square hole? Would the blocks fall and break apart like falling sand on a torch? Or would they simply stack again? What about the leaves? How would they be affected?
If the log falls into lava, well... It burns.
Well, I got that part pretty quickly. I was speaking more consequentially and reactionary and less end-result.
If there is a forest fire? Well, have you ever seen a forest fire? There is falling, flaming debris EVERYWHERE!
I'm actually lucky there. I don't live in California, so I don't have to worry about near daily forest fires. Still, I'm not a fan of forest fires not caused by the player. Again, an enderman would easily start one without the player's knowledge and now their wooden house in the forest is in jeopardy due to forces beyond his scope, even if he IS aware of his surroundings.

Why assume when it comes from the horse's mouth. I didn't say you was lazy, you did; I was merely reaffirming your position.
Also, I did target your suggestion and reasons why I did not approve. You argued these points; I merely pointed out that the more efficient method which you revile does exist for these cases.
The thing is.. you HAVE to use an axe to make the trees come down. and its only from the block you hit and up.
Using anything but an axe just drops one block like default.
This negates pretty much most the stuff you mentioned since its not an axe hitting the wood.
This said, it doesnt make a tree 'fall' in a certain direction, as the OP seems to want; but all straight down.
aka 'terarria' style.

I think he is referring to not just falling items but actual logs that you still have to cut, it just moves them down.
