With the addition of the hunger bar, there needs to be more food in the game. How many of us have died just because we could not cook the meat in time?
-Beef Jerky: Crafted from steak, this treat would take less time to eat than other foods. Perfect for a quick snack in the mines.
-Bacon: Similar to beef jerky, only crafted from pork chops.
-Drumstick: Similar to beef jerky, only crafted from chicken.
-Meat kabob: Crafted from one pork chop, one steak, and one arrow, this could be eaten twice. You would be able to stack more food. It would drop an arrow when you finish it.
-Apple trees: A special tree that would make it easier to find apples. Saplings would have a 1 in 100 chance of spawning a Golden Apple Tree, which do not appear in nature.
-Cacao trees: Trees that would make it easier to find Cocoa Beans. (The tree's name is not a misspelling. The word cocoa originated from an ancient misspelling of cacao, which is the proper name of the tree. Who knew?)
-Chocolate bar: A delicious snack made from cocoa beans, sugar, and milk. It could be eaten 12 times, the same as the number of squares on a Hershey bar. It would also take less time to eat.
UPDATE 1
-Corn: A new farmland-grown crop. The plant would grow 3 blocks high, then sprout yellow ears of corn, which could be harvested by breaking the plant. Corn could be craved into kernels, which would act as seeds. Kernels could also be found in dungeon and mineshaft chests, and may be farmed by villagers.
-Hops: Another new farmland-grown crop. Hops are both craftable and plantable, but not edible. They are found in dungeon and mineshaft chests, and may be farmed by villagers.
-Beer: A drink crafted from 3 wheat, 3 hops, a bucket of water, and a potion bottle (in the update). It is quick to drink and heals fairly well, but too many in a row will cause your guy to stumble around in confusion for a while.
Looks cool! The only thing is, kabobs should be made with a stick, and you lose the stick after you eat it because it is covered in meat 'residue'.
Other than that it sounds awesome

You know what would also be epic? A brain! First you put it in your head, then you use it!
Most people spawn with one but I guess you didn't because of a bug.
The plural for food is food, I thought you should know.
Given that he knows the proper spelling of the cocao tree, I would bet money he knows the pluralization rules for food.
It's pretty obvious the OP just wrote foods to be humorous. Just like noms.
However, to the OP, you actually died while waiting for meat to cook? Why not just eat the raw meat? Chicket has a chance to give the extra hunger poison, but there's no penalty for raw beef or pork.

Also, I completely agree. But this is the stuff that can be EASILY added by Mods. Either by finding them online, or by using one of the very easy to use mod makers and make it yourself.
When the final game is released, you will be able to customize your minecraft game in practically any way you can imagine.
For instance, I want practically every kind of food I can think of: lamb, for instance. Berries, nuts, roots, whole farms and kitchens, perhaps with the ability to hire cooks from the villages.
You think the mods are great now, just wait till the game is stable and mostly complete, and see what professional style mods there will be.

Apple trees and coco trees should definitly be added, but beside that it is really ridiculous to say that we need food you can craft from food. I don't die from not enough time to cook food, I die from not enough food in general (I have this weird save where no passive mobs have spawned :/ ).
