Hardcore mode: You die, you lose everything! Including your world!
"Eww" you say?
Well have no fear! The loosely thought-out and probably over-suggested, "Save Point" is here!
I call it The black Box! That took me a straight hour to make -.-

In Hardcore mode, your main objective is to survive as long as possible as you play the game as normal. But whats the point? It would be idiotic to be invested in a huge complicated creation if you could just lose it all due to a failed jump or random lag when fighting a creeper. And anyone can just isolate themselves in a dirt bunker waiting for a pig to roll by to kill for food and xp. So all that is left is an exploring/adventuring game in which your survivability is determined by how suicidal your play-style is.
But what if there was an objective, Something you were working for. What would be a better reward for your hard work and survival than to be able to save!
Here is how it would work:
Once you gather all the supplies and construct it, it would work similar to a jukebox. If you place a music disk in the Black Box your game produces a 'save' that saves your world and makes the place you are standing your next spawn point. The music from the disk begins to play. In the event that you die, you will return to that point in the that world's development
The catch(es):
-Your exp and stats will not be saved
-Your inventory will not be saved
-The disk you used will be destroyed
-Score set back to 0
-Saves are deleted upon being used. The world is deleted if you die when a Black box is not active.
"Can this even be considered hardcore anymore?"
YA!
Disks are very rare. You will have to do a lot of dungeon exploring, a lot of fighting, a lot of digging, and a lot of surviving to be able to obtain disks. Hardcore will still be hard. But maybe with the added goal, and the opportunity to have a second chance, the experience will be improved and prolonged.... respectively.
Thoughts?
Possible "sorry in advance" for: Suggestion being the same as something else, not knowing how hardcore will work, or it being a generally stupid idea.

I was thinking about that.. and now that there will be more disks around.. i think that would make more sence...
