Imagine, moving through a dungeon when you hear the horrible skitter of large legs across the floor. The horrendous clack of chiten announces it's presence and you're already in fear. You have just come across the large scorpion known as the swapper.
The Swapper
made a crude image, hope you enjoy.
These mobs are not venomous, though their potent stingers contain something far more fearful. Within their stingers is the ability to swap position with the player.
The stinger is not a simple melee utility, but within this crafty barb is the ability to fling their displacing acid at range.
Size: Large (3 long, 2 high, 2 wide)
it has the same design as a spider, but it houses two devious pincers and a displacing barb on the top.
Sound: When hit, it makes the same sound as a spider. When firing it's displacing venom; it makes a sound like cracking chitin. When it moves, it makes a sound like rocks scraping against eachother. You're gonna hear it. If it spots the player, it raises it's pincers and tail and makes a cry as it's chitin shambles.
Stomping Ground:
Mostly found in abandoned mines, can also be found in desert biomes at night.
Health: 5 Hearts
luckily, health is not great on these creatures. They have significantly less health than spiders. With a pool of health equal to a ghast, a player should be able to make quick work unless he is displaced first.
Damage:
easy - 1
medium - 2
hard - 3
If the player makes physical contact, the swapper deals damage like other mobs.
Speed:
Normal: 75% of player run speed
Aggressive: 125% of player run speed
Other abilities and Attacks:
Displace
Used at close range or ranged, the swapper has the ability to displace the player and swapper. Both retain their facing. The displacement is instantaneous. The swapper is highly aggressive after the displacement.
Ranged: When the swapper uses this ability, it stops moving for 2 seconds before firing its payload 5m in front of it.
Close: The swapper only stops for 1 second as a rear back before stinging its target.
Drops:
Displacement Venom: 25% chance (1~3 drops)
While equipped, right-clicking will throw the venom like a snowball. This destroys the venom. The player is transported to where the venom lands. This is a good method to avoid fall damage when the player wishes to descend quickly.
The venom may also be thrown at NPCs and other players displacing the positions of the two.
Shears: 10% chance (1 drop)
As macabre as it sounds, their pincers make fine shears.

Questions and Answers
Oh god...giant scorpions would be quite terrifying, I'll tell you that. I would be the first person to have a heart attack from Minecraft. :tongue.gif:
if it was a more humanoid style mob it could climb vines, that way it could come at you from the tops of the swamp trees kind of like Spiders.
Not sure how a swamp mob relates to my idea o_0... Try to stay on topic, thanks for the post though.
Added the mob's stomping ground.
This mob will be found in abandoned mines and deserts at night.

Update:
Added Poll and image. I'll work on the image a bit more as time passes, but I would like to get some coverage on the idea.
Pros, cons, potential balance toward it, etc. I'm kind of dumbfounded at the low number of responses to this.
