Here's a thought.
What if each tool material granted a secondary effect? Here's a list of ideas I came up with as an example.
Wooden: Wood axes harvest two wood from a single tree block
Stone: Stone shovels can dig through two dirt, sand, or gravel blocks at a time
Iron: Iron swords harvest double meat from animal mobs
Gold: Gold armor could harm undead creatures on impact
Diamond: Diamond picks, while equipped, emit light
These are just random ideas to get this idea's intention across, rather than actual suggestions. What do you think?
The idea sounds cool, but I can't think of even a marginally realistic-ish explanation for why poor quality tools would be preferred over good ones. The renewable nature of wood and stone means more often than not, stone tools are just fine for me. :smile.gif:
that stone shovel thing sounds annoying and this belongs in the sugestions
I thought about throwing it into Suggestions, but I'm more interested in generating a discussion about secondary tool effects than actually suggesting this change, right now. I don't know if it's necessary or not.
I like both the gem idea and the statement that the only thing that really needs this is gold. For as fast as gold wears out as both armor and tools, it could use something cooler to go with it besides a marginally faster harvesting time. I'd be up for it getting some nifty effect.
