I play traditionally on a friend's server and usually end up ever doing two things: Walking around aimlessly getting incredibly lost while exploring new areas and marking them with signposts; and building "roads" of Powered Minecart Rails in order to provide transportation to far areas of the map.
Now, while "challenge" is not the focus of this server, instead being building and exploration, I have noticed some issues in regards to the building and exploration that come as a little bit of an annoyance. Maybe it's just me being oblivious to something Idk, but anyway I wanted to understand why transportation seems to be an impossible task in Minecraft as it is right now.
[I DON'T WANT TO FLY, SO DON'T MENTION IT, THANKS]
Why aren't their easier ways of moving about the world? (and I'm gonna restrict this meaning to the overworld)
I mean I can travel by boat which is really annoying because water isn't everywhere, and it's hard to take the boat with you; I can travel by Pig which just seems complicated and/or bloody ignorant; I can travel by rail which seems unfortunately to be the most efficient way of traveling across long distances; or lastly there's using portals (supposedly?)to travel between the Nether and the Overworld over distances which is also complicated and sometimes unpredictable.
Why can't there be some kind of hard to build instant teleporter that can teleport to various locations. Even if it was something crude like a Nether portal re-skin that cycled between similar portals in the Overworld, I think that'd at least be be something.
Or better, since it is called MINEcraft, why not make buildable trucks? People do use trucks in mining. It could be a simple flatbed truck that you can drive and maybe in the bed you could have a choice of crafting a chest on it like with minecarts? I don't wanna suggest "OH LETZ PUTZ CARZ IN IT!" because I think everyone can agree that that would just be dumb and counter to the point of the game (Which I will remind you is MINING [and ultimately using mined material to build things]), but I do think that there is a problem with transportation.
My other Idea is focused more on the generated structures that seem to be a new thing in Minecraft.
First, Dungeons, Abandoned Mineshafts, and Strongholds are awesome and make sense (or at least from an exploration perspective). I think though that the new Villages seem to make less sense in contrast to everything else. These Villages are supposed to be fully constructed (and habitable) areas with npcs, and somehow they live both unabridged by the outside world (i.e. affected by monsters) and in the way of potential construction, while also being somewhat of an eyesore (my opinion from them in pics in contrast to their surroundings). Villages are out of place, they look and feel out of place in the game as well as being out of place with the primary focus of Minecraft (Again, it's MINING).
I really feel that Villages are useless and unnecessary. HOWEVER, some people may like the villages for other reasons. So I was thinking that on the menu thing when you create a map, if there could be an option to select or deselect each type of generated structure I think it would be better if everyone can choose what exactly they want instead of a broad "turn them all off" or "turn them all on".
What are your thoughts?
Oh, and another thing. I had an idea for another game mode after playing on my friend's server.
On the server he has monsters turned off, so they don't spawn in the dark and at night, HOWEVER, the Dungeon spawners circumvent that and thus enable monsters to still spawn in dungeons, which I think is a really interesting mechanic. All the danger is hidden and you don't know where enemies are until you hear them. It would be cool if there were a gamemode like this but instead the dungeons can spawn random enemy mobs (i.e. spawn things like Creepers, Endermen, Slime, Ghast, etc.) instead of being set to only the current 4? that I know of (being the Zombie, Skeleton, Spider, and Cave Spider). Or maybe a gamemode that only spawns monsters in caves? xD
Okay. Your idea about the transportation. I think that a better solution would be to have horses in the game, and you being able to control them. Secondly, about the optional structures: I agree strongly with this, and think that it should be a definite feature added. Good luck on getting responses to this! I have +1ed your post.
Thanks!
I thought about mentioning horses too, but I was afraid that might end up turning the game into TES4:Oblivion or something, lol. I could just see horse armor coming out for it soon after and that could either be good or ridiculous!
Although, horses would be effective for transportation too I believe.
