Looking for someone who can make a good texture for Rusted Iron and Driftwood! Please PM me.

Currently (including 1.9) We have dungeons that can spawn on top of the land, under the ground, the nether, and the 3 dungeons in the aether mod. Seems like something is missing right? I'm sure almost all of you have thought to yourself "how cool would it be to stumble across a shipwreck" or have posted on the suggestion form "there should be shipwrecks." However no one has actually tried to make a full out thread on the idea. Well here you go! Enjoy
~~~Welcome to the Shipwreck!~~~
Shipwrecks are just what they sound like. Ships that have wrecked ether by hitting land, or sinking in the middle of an ocean.
Locations in game:
The way I see it, there should be two main spawn points. Swamp ship wrecks and mid-oceanic wrecks.
And thanks to a recent suggestion I am now working on details for them spawning in the deserts!
Swamp Wrecks:
Swamp wrecks are ships that have hit the low lying land in the swamp. These kinds of wrecks are a little bit more destroyed then those in the ocean. Below are a few pictures of a shipwreck I made in a swamp.
***Please note my version of a shipwreck is NOT perfect whatsoever. Also ship wrecks will be almost exactly the same in appearance. Which is why most of the pictures here are of the swamp wrecks. This is so you can see them better.
Ocean Wrecks:
Ocean wrecks are ships that have sunk in the middle of a body of water. This wrecks are VERY hard to find due to lighting, but will be more frequently spawned to try and even the odds. The cabin on ocean wrecks is water free to allow you to gather the rewards without drowning. (This is one of the only major differences between the two wrecks. The other is an ocean wreck has no sail left on it)
*** Suggestion for Ocean Wrecks: Have lanterns lighting them up so you can see them from the surface.
Graphical bugs with fences would need to be fixed or just ignored I guess.
A Once coastal wreck that was burned down by a natural lava fall.
(SNEAK PEEK at a downed oil tanker. Can you see it?)
Desert Wrecks:
Desert wrecks are ships that hit or sunk in a once vast body of water. Then one day the water from that site dried up to leave the ship in a vast desert biome! These ships would be EXTREMELY rare to find in the desert.
Picture Coming Soon!
Arctic Wrecks:
Explores once were exploring the unexplored arctic circle depths within the minecraft world. Although there were icebergs hidden in the depths. Before they could react, it was already too late.
Picture Coming Soon!
Ship Types:
The small boats above would be merchant ships. The larger ones would by more like a cargo or war ship. Pictures below are an idea of a larger ship.
***Please Note this ship is not damaged so you can see the size and fullness of them.
Rewards:
Possible rewards are listed below. Also Rewards would be located in a chest within the captain's cabin.
1. TNT: Pirates had explosives
2. Gun Powder: Pirates also had gun powder
3. Chain Mail Armor: Possibly raided from other ships in medieval times
4. Other misc. items such as bread, redstone, seeds etc.
New Blocks:
Drift Wood:
Drift wood will be a new block that is introduced with all old ships that are made out of wood. What Drift wood is, is wood that have been in the ocean for a long period of time. It gets water logged and starts to break down.
(Picture coming soon)
Rusted Iron:
Rusted iron is just what it sounds like. Iron that is rusted. There will be rusted iron blocks, pipes, and ingots. These will be found of wrecks of the more modern ships. Ships in the arctic and the ocean liners that are found deep within the vast bodies of water.
Uses: You can put iron in a crafting table with steel wool to make it normal iron again. OR you can put it into a furnace to super heat it and make cracked metal. Which when stepped on will crumble from under your feet and will make you fall.
(Picture coming soon)
Steel Wool:
Made from iron ingots, sponge, coal and flint to create it. Then you can use it with Rusted Iron to restore it.
Uses: Restores rusted iron, to normal iron. Steel Wool is EXTREMELY flammable.
Sponge will be a form of sea sponge and would be located in different bodies of water!
Feel Free to suggest other uses!
New Mob Ideas:
A new possible mob that would be protecting the ships would be an undead beast who has no fear.
Hardcore:
Spawn: In light levels of 7 or less on various ship wrecks. Drops: Ghoul Blood: Can be used in some sort of potion
Attributes: Can float over water or trenches, and is NOT effected by lava.
Amazing idea! I do think the ships need to be bigger, though, with Ghost Pirates or something. You fight your way through the crew cabins, down into the cargo hold with rewards, and occasionally a bossfight with the captain in the captain's quarters.
How about some shipwrecks on the coast. They would be more destroyed than the other 3 shipwrecks and along the coast. They would be ships destroyed on land. They will be more likely to be next to smaller islands.
This is ingenious but I might add one suggestion. For the ocean wrecks, possibly have the sail be floating above it? or just off to the side. Either way this is an epic idea.
Deep sea wrecks for oceans if we ever get diving gear to explore those depths...add hostile marine life and you can turn shipwrecks into "underwater dungeons" with shark spawners and treasure chests.
How about different kinds of ships, with different kinds of loot is them, for example, a Pirate ship would have TNT, gunpowder, weapons and it would be bigger and have a skull and cross bones sail. They would be semi-rare A explorers ship witch would contain more food, tool, and maybe maps or paper and books. They would be the smallest kind of ships and the most common. Than there would be merchant ships, the biggest and most rare, because they contain valuables like; gold, iron, and redstone.
Hmm, well how about rusted iron/steel blocks? Water and time causes metal like iron to rust anyways, so it could work in with the shipwrecks. Plus, it would be pretty weird if you found a shipwreck with metal blocks in pristine condition. Rusted iron blocks would also look pretty cool for decor and stuff.
This is a brilliant idea! I love it :biggrin.gif:
I agree with what other people have said, some should be big and be guarded by special mobs... Maybe zombie-pirates or ghosts? Or something more original, like an evil-lobster thing, or a sea monster type creature? maybe something like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cornwall/content/images/2007/09/19/giantlobster_470_470x256.jpg
If you do pirate ships you should put cannons on both sides of the sunken ship and maybe make two sunken ships next to each other indicating there was a battle between the ships and maybe in the cannon room you could have skeletons sitting in there waiting and inside the chest of the sunken ships there could be a note were the captain says his final words
I think coastal and sunken shipwrecks should have a more water based mob variety.
I think there should be different variations of shipwrecks, each with different designs and loot.
Why swamp wrecks? Why would you sail a ship through a swamp? And why are they more destroyed than the others? I don't think shipwrecks should spawn in swamps, it's very unrealistic and it would make shipwrecks too common, as you would see them in oceans, lakes, deserts and swamps. I think swamps should be shipwreck-free.
Skeleton swordsman?
Nice not a bad idea at all. And yes I do agree that the real shipwrecks should be a little bigger. The one I made was just an idea or a beta version of the real thing. Your suggestion has been added to the post
Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
If shipwrecks were found in the desert, few people would understand... They would have to be super-rare, but even then a lot of people would think them glitches.
And not all deserts are seabeds. Actually, I think the majority aren't.
NICE! Maybe there can be a big eel protecting the ship along with the ghost pirates from fredex's idea, like unagi (the big red eel) from jolly roger in super mario 64
Hey. You need to know something.
You're cool.
Anyway, I like this idea a lot! But I'd imagine it'd be hard to make something boat-like out of a jungle of planks... but if anybody can figure it out, I guess it'd be Notch* and/or the brilliant minds of the people who play Minecraft.
*Notch, when stated from my mouth, usually means the whole of Mojang.
I like this idea. Good thinking and it looks great. I really like the idea of ruins and whatnot in minecraftia. I wonder if it'd be possible for them to have charted maps in the chests, which would be cool. Definitely have some variable sized ships, like one really big one per ocean or something. The oceans are GIGANTIC so stumbling upon a sunken ocean liner or something would be AWESOME.
Even more, this gave me an idea. Whenever you create a new world, you're just there, poof. No reason, you're just stranded in the middle of nowhere. I think it would be great to flesh out your characters background.
It would be cool if you spawned near a wreck, hinting you were on a shipwreck and are now stranded. The ship could contain simple wooden tools and bread for you to survive your first night. It could also contin a recipe book with the basic recepies for crafting to help you along.
I am thinking on a way to identify them from the surface, and this is one of the ideas I thought of as well! Thanks for the feedback, and your post was added to the suggestion section!
That's a REALLY good idea. I never thought of that in that aspect before. Great catch!
Except they need to be real big. Like a mini-stronghold. Except more interesting. I can see this working very well in conjunction with better boats.
