In the new biome (1.8) there are big seas with nothing more that squids... this is a little boring, I think is a good idea to add some aggressive mobs to make it more difficult to swim something like:
1) a Crab that can't swim but bee in water (in the bottom)
2) and I don't know a shark? "to clichle?" maby an octopus so u can confuse them with a squid until it attack you...
Maybe you guys can help my with a good ideas for this mobs, but please add something cool in this passive waters of miencraft.
Well swiming ones sound a little creepy picture this ur riding a boat and out of no where ur attacked by some huge thing ur boat breaks u can't swim that fast so ur screwed now the crab thing sounds cool because u kill a squid and u go down to get it and ur attacked running out of oxygen u have to choose life or ink sac I'd be like screw the crabs its my ink sac

Put this into your signature if you are willing to stand up for God. I am Disethas Pawn
Crabs and octopus sound fine but those are two animals that would rather flee than hang around and fight. If you want something aggressive then I would say either some barracuda or tiger shark.
If anything that aggressive is added that would just make people avoid the water though.
why does it have to be somting from our world? a creeper is obvoisly not even similar to any animal on earth.
i think a sea worm sort of thing +=======O where the'+' is a spicke or what not, '=' is the body and 'O' can be the head. the head could be a huge mouth full of teeth and have no eyes. it could lurke in the deep and since black it could be very hard for the player to see????

Someone once asked me why don't you crawl into a black hole and die!? I said spread your legs *****!

Yes u r right so maby adding something precious like diamond in the bottom of the oceans or meaby making this mobs give a really good item...
I think sharks would be an good idea, but only with a few conditions:
- they only appear in water deeper than 5 blocks or maybe more
- you need a possibility of breathing and a better visibility underwater
- something rare and useful to mine/drop
Otherwise it wouldn't be worth the danger.
1) good idea "the 5 blocks"
2) i think maby an item that let u breath a long time but not forever will be cooler
3) that the best thing, it will do that people use more the ocean.

yes thats a good thinking xD, it will be great something new like a big seaworm cool!
Notch said a long time ago he wouldn't add sharks, because thay would be to hard and fast for the player to deal with.
But if he does add them, they should come in different sizes.
Small Shark= 5 Punches to kill, Drops 1-3 Shark Teeth
Medium Shark= 10 Punches to kill, drops 1-5 Shark Teeth and 0-1 Blubber.
Large Shark= 20 Punches to kill, drops 1-7 Shark Teeth, 1-3 Blubber, and 0-1 Shark Egg
Shark Teeth are used for Nothing, There just there :tongue.gif:
Blubber is used for being able to breathe under water. (Craft a hat with it, then put it on.)
Shark Eggs are used for Having your own lil sharkie. (Drop egg in water, Wait til it hatches, Then it grows to be huge and kill anything that fall in.)

That wouldn't tempt me at all. I wouldn't need to risk going down into some water I can't see through to pick up a couple diamonds. I find plenty of diamonds mining.

well but here we are writing some others mobs to add, like the wormsea, crab etc...
I think this may be a good idea once larger ships have been added. These 'sea monsters' should be able to destroy the small boats but not larger ships. This would make sailing across oceans dangerous unless you spent the materials on a larger boat. Until some kind of large ship is added however, these hostile animals could become problematic when trying to cross oceans.
Also, storms and whales would be nice additions to these new ocean biomes.
Edit: In terms of agressive ocean - going mobs, there are plenty of stories of horrible creatures that could be added to the game. Examples: sea serpents, 'kraken' (giant squid or octopus), dinosaur - like things (Loch Ness Monster).
Even normal sea creatures. Examples: sharks (although Notch said no to this one), swordfish (not deadly in reality, although for game purposes this could be altered) and others

yes but the idea is to make the sea funnier than those squids with ink... think it like thiis ¿why big oceans? if there r nothing in there is only like decorative...
Ocean guardians
Spawn- 5 blocks deep, rare as wolves, spawn in packs of 5.
They have the tail of a fish, the head of a squid, and the back fin of a shark.
Attacks- They hit you with their tridents, doing only half a heart of damage, but knocking you half a block down per hit.
Drop- Water trident, water tridents do the same things as they do when a guardian holds them, but it makes you swim at sprinting speed.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
^^ this is my sea worm thing.
this took me a while so dont hate ha.
i think these should lurk in the botom of the ocean as the deepest parts of water are dark and i can see these inhabiting dark areas of water.
maybe they could drop teeth that can be crafted into arrows that do twice as much damage as regular arrows, i dont know maybe a few suggestions?
how they attack i feel how they look and given their nature i would like to see them attack from below the player if in a range of 10 blocks? they attack from below and can on occasions break small boats. they could swim the same speed as the player as it would be a bit unfair if they swam faster because they could swarm you. feedback?
i really like this idea and hope to see it in a mod or evn the defult game!!

WOW I love it! it will be great if it is one of the sea agressive creatures!

Things I think would be good to add to oceans to liven them up a bit and be less lifeless and moonlike:
Crabs: they scuttle around on the bottom, and are semi-agressive (ignore you and other mobs, fight back if they're attacked).
Sharks: the standard water predator, they can attack passive aquatics and players alike.
Tuna: a basic familiar fish to act as the pigs of the sea for sharks to nom on.
Kelp: basic flora of the oceans, grow upward with vine-like mechanics (not past the surface obviously), and spread in small clusters like mushrooms.
Coral: found in clumps in shallow oceans waters, available in a rainbow of colors like wool (no purpose necessary, just to liven the place up).

Anemones at the bottom of the sea that fire a spikes ball on a string like tentacle at you and slowly pull you down to their mouths...
very complicated but strangely cool xD
