I've recently noticed that of all the hostile mobs in Minecraft, the zombie is the weakest. why? Read the following to find out:
Skeletons have ranged attacks and can occasionally mount spiders(spider jockey). Creepers are very good at ambushing and are explosive. Spiders can pounce, climb walls, aren't effected by cobweb, and can fit into 1x3 holes. Cave spiders can pounce, POISON, climb walls, fit into 1x1 holes, and aren't effected by cobweb. Silverfish can call others of its kind to help it. Slimes divide when killed. Enderman can teleport, move blocks, and will beat the crap out of you if you look at them. Zombie Pigmen attack in groups and are immune to fire/lava. Ghasts can fly, have explosive ranged attacks, and are fire/lava-proof.
But the Zombie? All it can do is chase you and hit you, just like all the other monsters.
My idea to beef them up: DETACHABLE BODY LIMBS. when you hit a zombie, depending on where you hit it, a body part will fall of and continue to attack you. Let's get into more detail.
You can detach arms, legs, the head, or separate the torso from the legs.
1. Arms: To detach an arm, hit a Zombie in the shoulder. When an arm is detached, it will continue pursuing you as it crawls along the ground. If an arm gets close enough to you, it will grab onto you and try to strangle you, slowly leeching your health until you shake it off or cut it off.
2. Legs: To detach a leg, hit a Zombie on either leg. When a leg is detached, the full zombie will hop on one leg, still pursuing you, and the detached leg will hop towards you the leg will damage you on contact- because it cant kick on its own.
3. Head: To detach the head, hit it in the head or neck. When the head is detached, it will just sit there and do nothing. the head can be picked up and placed on top of fence-posts (or any other block). the headless zombie will still chase you, but will occasionally get confused on which way to go. The head alone, if placed by the player, does not burn during the day.
4. Torso: to separate the torso from the legs, hit a Zombie at the waist-line. the torso will crawl with its hands toward you, and the legs will run towards you. the legs also move 50% faster with the sudden *loss of body* weight. there are different variations for the torso, such as headless 2 arm torso, head +1arm torso, headless 1 arm torso, head +2arm torso, and head +armless torso. the head +armless torso will try to bite you if you get too close to it.
5. Chest: the chest is the result of removing the head, arms, and legs of the zombie. the chest cannot attack you, but you should still kill it. if you do not kill the chest, any remaining appendages will stop chasing the player and reattach themselves to the chest.
How to destroy zombies: Zombies themselves cannot be killed. they can only be killed by detaching and killing each individual body part. Each body part has 10 hearts. the chest is considered vital piece. Once the chest has been killed, the limbs have nothing to reattach to and can be disposed of more quickly. if a whole zombie is blown up by a creeper or TNT, all the body parts will become separated and thrown a short distance from the blast
All of the above could also be applied to all undead mobs, especially the placeable head part.
I decided to change their hp/ damage: arms, chests, and legs have 3 hearts; torsos and leg pairs have 5 hearts; the head just stares at you kinda funny. as well as body parts all move only half as fast as the original whole zombie-except the leg pair
I'm still figuring out how much health each limb damages, so I'll add that to the list when I have it figured out
thank you for reading and have a good day. oh and watch out for creepers
I like this, this can make minecraft more of a challenge. Zombies are easy but if this was added, it would make minecraft alot more fun. This makes sense
Zombies are too underpowered, theres a yes on that BUT zombies are meant to be easy. We need SOME balance in the minecraft mob system. What I am saying is, if ALL mobs are hard, the noobs will be mad on there first night. But if those features are only enabled on hard, it would be a GREAT addition
well cool idea and i love your gir pic lol but minecraft couldn't hold up this kinda stuff at the moment. and heres some flaws in your plans 1 the legs would have nothing telling then to do anything so they would do nothing and the body crawling could work but the legs won't do. 2 the arm would be similar to the legs having no brain function to tell it what to do. 3 the headless body is kinda cool but i think it would be like CoD Nazi Zombies but they would stop then they would walk from left to right dew to no eye sight 4 The one leg would be there alone dead and the zombie hopping good idea. 5 all this would have to use alot of textures so what i would say if notch were to do this he would make like crawling zombie mob were the zombie crawls to you without its legs ect and it would be pretty laggy cause it's a blocky game that doesn't have much use until maybe the full release cause hes still gonna add stuff he said and one last thing you should of thought about this more clearly cause there is alot of flaws in your stuff but you did think of some cool things :wink.gif:

Well the thing about zombies is that they're the only mob that if you touch them will auto-hurt you. If you get trapped in a corner with 2 of these guys you're kinda effed. Honestly, they have their balance, just it isn't as much as the others. I do, however, like this idea.

Or, it could only be enabled when hardcore mode is on (coming in 1.9)
