If we are getting animal breeding according to the wiki. This will be fairly redundant. The spawners would have to be nerfed anyways, because they spawn every 2.0-7.99 seconds, and one set of iron bars makes 2 spawners by the recipe to state.

For animals, this should be unnecessary as it's already been stated that animal breeding will be a part of the game in an upcoming build. However, craftable spawners that can produce friendly mobs that will guard areas for you I'm in support of. Mobs created by player-made spawners should not drop loot or xp. I had a similar idea for setting up spawning platforms for the purpose of the territories idea in my signature.

It's basically just a square of iron with an item dropped from the desired mob that you wish to spawn.
Now, Some of you would be thinking "Well, what's to stop grievers making a ton of creeper spawners?"
Simple problem, simple solution. There would be a server option which allows you to include spawn crafting or not.

Would be a nice addition to the farming aspect that Jeb has talked about.
And would also be very useful considering animals no longer spawn in old chunks after you've killed them.
First of all, animal breeding is coming in the full release of 1.9
Second of all, craftable monster spawners would be over powered and would render searching for them useless.
