The new biome code generates numerous hills and walking around is now more troublesome. Adding parachutes / paraglides (e.g. 3 string + 3 wool) would alleviate the problem and provide limited air transportation at the same time. Steve could glide off a cliff with some limited direction control, as with a real world paraglide or a parachute.
I agree.I have always wanted some form of parachutes and hang gliders ever since I went up a mountain to get coal on a cliff. After I got the coal, I jumped down into the water below, but there wasn't enough for me (even though a cow survived from a higher height).

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
Its so annoying with the new biome engine. We should be able to parachute down mountains and be able to create epic explosive escapes from an exploding mine on a minecart, ultimately ending in you parachuting away from the cart's course into a lava lake.I think big.

I had actually thought of much the same thing earlier today. Parachutes/hang-gliders/some kind of unpowered gliding mechanism would be fun and not broken. Unfortunately, there's other things that I think are more important, but I definately like the idea.
YEAAAAAHHHH!! (sorry i was falling, parachutes aren't in game) It would make jumping off ledges much more epic,
Heres a situation, but played out twice, with and without this,
You have just managed to get enough diamonds for full armor and a sword, (thats 26), but then, monsters come out of a hole in the ceiling, zombies, creepers, skeletons and spiders, around 4 of all of each, you run, you eventually see a light, you sprint to your max speed, running your heart out, but you find a ledge, and you don't have enough time to build your way down, or dig it.
Without parachute: You whip out your dirt blocks and build away as fast as you can, but they're too fast, a skeleton, burning in the light, with it's last piece of energy, he shot a bow at you, knocking you back, making you fall, GAME OVER.
With parachute: Luckily, with the new parachutes, you have already packed one, you quickly equip it, and jump down, you glide down gracefully, the monster falling off, leaving only gunpowder, string, rotten flesh and bones.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
I understand but I'd like to point out that the topic becomes much more relevant as we start looking at huge cliffs AND 50-deep ravines in 1.8+. Traversing the world is a PITA. I would think that suggesting this kind of stuff earlier is not the same as suggesting it now when it actually might make sense to make it an element of the mechanic.

Sounds like a plan
