So this is my idea:
Instead of dying the whole block, you could have the option of dying only half the block!
So when you're crafting, and two options would come up, one saying Half and the other saying full.
If you dyed half the block, then you'd receive half of your dye back in a different stack (that has a health bar at half, which means you can use that to dye another half block)
You can half dye one same block twice, same colour or different colour.
When placing the half dyed block, the the last colour you dyed will be facing you (so if you were to dye a wool block first blue then yellow on the other side, the yellow would be facing towards you, and the blue away).
The purpose of this is that it can work like paint in a way, and you wouldn't have to do a 2 block thick wall with different colours. If you were doing it as a wall, you could have the outside one colour and the inside one colour, and only as one block. It can also save room when building (not needs to have a double wall).
A downside to it is that if you did a lot of these, it could take up a lot of storage.
