Back when I played Minecraft, I always joyed at how colorful everything was and how the lighting made me feel at home no matter what kind of house I made.
But ever since this update things seem a bit more depressing, with all the sepia tone you get from cobblestone and from the outdoors in general(see picture, sepia tone is essentially the faded orangeness all around the picture).

It essentially made a castle from a badass place(how I viewed it, I know it looks crappy, okay? :tongue.gif:) to call home to an old, dusty, depressing place.
My suggestion is that Notch should implement an option to change the lighting/colorscheme/whatever causes this(I'll edit this once someone can clarify what it is) to what it originally was.
This new patch has essentially made Minecraft look way less visually appealing than what it was before and it depresses me whenever I tour my villages/castles and such now.
Now if you think I'm crazy(which I'm sure most people will), or you can relate, feel free to drop a reply and explain why you feel that way, or what alternative ideas could be used.
I guess you're right. The shading before was white-black. Now it's more like yellow-purple-ish. I think it makes it look realistic although I think torches should emit some sort of white light, glowstone should emit yellow and redstone torches should emit red light..

Go check out some of my suggestions on my profile, in the about me tab!
Yeah I'm all for the new lighting system as well in the aspect that it makes everything look for real, but as it stands its making most of my crap look...well..crappier.
Edit: I fixed the pictures now, just compare them and you'll see exactly what I mean.
Personally, I think that it makes for a brighter, less gloomy atmosphere. I appreciate the warm tones, and feel when I look at the new lighting, that my house feels more like a home. I'm not certain that the answer is in the lighting.
Honestly, with the old lighting it hardly felt like the torches were doing anything. With the new system, light has a more pronounced effect. This may seem like an odd idea, but I think that rather than change that, Notch should add the ability to tint light sources in game to provide different lighting by location. This would also be a good thing for large builds, allowing...as an example...for a castle in which the great hall is in warm, inviting shades of yellow or orange light, a dungeon is in gloomy, brooding purples and blues, the forge glows a dark, hot red, gardens in vibrant, organic greens, and the royal bedchamber is in an intimate, soft pink. It would make for a much more dramatic way to light things.
How would you do it, though? Well, for torches, nothing could be simpler. Just craft the torch with some dye to get a coloured torch. Quick and easy mood lighting. Place a coloured torch in a pumpkin, or craft a Jack-O-Lantern with dye, and you have a coloured lantern. Glowstone might be more complicated, but it wouldn't have to be too much harder. Take four glowstone, and four of the same colour dye, alternate them around a piece of glass. The resulting block would shed coloured light at Glowstone brightness, and even drop glowstone dust when broken.

Wouldn't that be more interesting?
This is an amazing idea, I love the idea of having colored torches and tinted light sources.
I don't want to update this thread with that though, I(or you) would have to make a new thread about this as it does not directly relate to my topic title.
You have truly provided an incredible concept for an idea though, props to you.
