you know skill tree systems, they give you customizeable abilities for your characters to stand up to the onslaught before them, but the problem with these skill trees is that they're very limited in truth, they just give you some minor advancement and allow you some more power in the "off" chance it could happen
+5% to fire resistance
-9% mana burn
+3 damage to physical attacks
and though you can level up these abilities more whats the use? often no more than the first time that you acquire them are they're levels really major, -9 GREAT!! then? -3 consecutively until level 20 -1 from then until max
my point is go to any game with a skill tree and you'll find that really these abilities aren't that great they have some cramp in their actual abilities, theres always a "chance of" or "possibility" based on the percents stated above and unless you actually do something new like a new combo set (like in god of war's leveling) their virtually useless

thats why i'm posing this new idea, again, and suggestions are always welcome
if there was going to be a skill tree in mincraft, then why not use it for things that would expand the game? like the nether aether or equivalent exchange?
my idea is simple, why not make a skill tree based off of the original mincraft mods?
we base them on their level of alteration to minecraft and you have to collect more skill points based on their height, all the while spending points to get to them
you could have flight which would be the flying mod effectively allowing you reach unthinkable heights
the TP mod allowing you to construct maps and use them to teleport certain distances
the magic wand mod, whats it called, allows you to use magic
skills like these would use hunger to operate, but require less and less at higher levels
---
then there's nuts and bolts, the engineering mod, that would allow you to construct things like powered minecarts and pistons at low levels and air ships, planes, and advanced pistons (pistons from the original mod) in the advanced levels
doctor who? who allows you to use the apothicarium mod allowing more and more recipes in later levels
equivalant exchange, allows you the EE mod and again higher levels have better recipes
even the portals to the nether, aether, or whatever dimension you can think of, would have these upgrades and allow new access to other places
though the best part is that when you acquire these abilities they should also come with one unique mob
learn to make explosives? creepers come, learn to make a nether portal? you get the endermen
basically any mod you could think of could be apart of this system, but should be something that would alter the game majorly as you go along, maybe not all apply but making friends with wolves should be an achievement through persistence as well as opening a nether/aether portal
though my topper to it all would be to use a community based system like battle.net
a place you could download these new "skills" as well as maps, skins, and texture packs without having to go through media fire, or what have you, by adding or deleting skills you could customize your character to your hearts content
anyone care to elaborate? (add or remove)
-cheers
ps i said this alot better last time, i think personally
