NOTE: The Enderpearl has a use now, so I guess I have to live with the fact that we have an item that teleports you, atleast he did it in a non-over powered way.
Now as we all know one of the items released with the 1.8 update which everyone is speculating about is the mysterious Enderpearl which for at the moment sadly has no use. Many people have suggested that it makes Enderman repelent, others say it should teleport Enderman away, but I believe I have any idea that none have yet seen or posted, the idea is for trading.
We all know that NPCs are coming soon to Minecraft in the next update and trading with them is likely possible. Many people have not figuired out what NPCs will buy from you, many people say gold coins, or diamonds. But I think it should be gold ingots and Enderpearls, think about it, Enderpearls have no use and so do gold ingots. [i]Why would NPCs want such a useless item?[i/] Well many olden' civilazitions such as indians traded for things that seemed useless to the seller but great and amazing to them.
Enderpearls would be about worth 2 gold ingots because 2 is a good round number. So that's my idea, Enderpearls being used as part of the currency.
they are not useless, at least in ssp you can hit mob at 2 chunks far, even behind another blocks... in SMP they are useless.
Keep one in your inventory, and hit with a sword...

Make sure your not in creative because you normally can hit mobs from far away even without an enderpearl.
i think the ender pearls should be used as a "one time use teleportation system"
I had once thought that a good use for them would be a temporary portal block, only works from Nether to Overworld. Never said anything. I wonder if some things are better left unsaid?
Anyways, I'm going to say that you don't have the answer. The answer is not posting about them because 70 other people will within the same hour.
gold ingots = accelerating track = roller coaster or village public transportation
so gold ingots are still valuable for innovation.
But you got a good point, I was thinking more like we should be able to break gold ingots into coins (ex. 1 gold ingot breaks into 4 coins) and we use coins to trade.
by reading your post this made me think maybe the npc vilagers to not trust you and will not let you in there village as you seem week.Though if you show them the enderpearl (right click them with the enderpearl.) you will gain there respect and be welcomed into the viliage?
So far the best Enderpearl idea I've read is to make them throwable;they will break upon impact and teleport you to their location.
Is it logical? Yes.
Is it cool? Hell yeah.
Is it Overpowered? Considering that it's one teleport at a time that can only be accomplished within throwing distance, and that you would need to kill a ton of Endermen to make it an issue, not at all.
The rest of the ideas seem either situational or overpowered. A oneway Nether portal would make going through the effort of a normal portal pointless, seeing how you can just get two and a lifetime supply of Netherrack, adding in the fact that you can get them very early. Currency is unconfirmed, and you'd need a lot to make them useful, not to mention that there can be better options for currency.
I liked the throwing idea a lot. That should be their use.
Well pearls do have a use, however trivial. If you could trade enderpearls with villages I think it should give you much less than two gold ingots, maybe more like a few peices of wood or stone *shrug*

However, I think diamonds would also be part of the currency system.
i agree
I always thought diamonds are a little too rare to be part of the currency.
