I think that biomes themselves should have their own type of stronghold. I suggest that dessert biomes should have pyramids. It would be composed of sand, sandstone, and a new block: sand brick stone. It could have traps, treasures, etc... These would appear as often as mine shafts and strongholds, about 2-3 per world. And they wouldn't be 9X9X9 blocks big. They would be 40X40X40 blocks big. And they would continue a little bit underground.
WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!

YES! Pyramids would make a huge difference to the current boringness of the deserts of minecraft, adding pyramid strongholds just makes exploring a desert actually WORTH IT, other than for cacti blocks. Maybe they can have mummies that are like zombies but just look more like they belong in the desert and scarab beetles which are desert silverfish. Makes it more of a pyramid explorer feeling rather than a zombieslayer-in-a-pyramid feeling.

You said exactly what I thought, a dungeon pyramid with traps in desert biomes.
I would also like a lot of biome specific dungeons like swamp temples, mayna like pyramids in rain forests, and ancient villages on mountains.
