Does anyone else feel like the animals in minecraft have something missing? Sure you can get their meat from killing them, but it seems like there is so much more potential to them. What if you can create your own barn, with your own farm animals? Have a different area for each animal(Chicken coop for chickens, cow pen for cows, etc)
Animal control and use:
Cows:
Cows live in "Cow pens" and eat their own food called "Cow Fodder" which lures them to where the food is. They become your farm animal(bell around neck) when you have fed them cow fodder for 3 days(4 fodder a day). Once they are your farm animal they can then go into a cow pen, where they can breed more cows, only if there are 2 or more domesticated cows. 1 cow spawns in the pen every 5-6 days. You can milk the cows or kill them for steak. Their milk can make cakes, be consumed in a jar for 2 hearts, or be used to make cereal with wheat, which heals 5 hearts.
Chickens:
Chickens live in chicken coops and eat their own food "bird food" which lure the chickens to where the food is. They are farm animals when you feed them bird feed for 4 days(4 bird feed each day). Once they are your farm animals they can go into a chicken coop and lay eggs, which can either be hatched by being placed on a hay stack, and left there for 4-5 days. You can get the eggs of a chicken to make cakes, cook them in a furnace to make sunny side eggs which heal 3 hearts, or be used to create more chickens.
Pigs:
Pigs live in pig shacks and eat "slobber". Pigs will follow you when fed slobber before they are farm animals. Pigs are the hardest to farm, they need to be fed for 6 days(1 slobber a day). Once they are yours they go into pig shacks and spawn once every 5 days. Pigs can be killed for pork, or used maybe to scare away endermans? The pork can be used to heal, held in hand to lure zombies and creepers(or maybe thats a use for rotten meat), make zombie pigmen your allies and defend you(they can leave nether and live for 15 days), and they can be throw(using MS button 3) to attract wolves and have them roam in that general area for 2 days.
Sheep:
Same use but luring is being brainstormed.
OCTOPUS!:
Octopus are caught with a net only and can only survive for 2 hours in a net, inventory, or out of water. Once an octopus is caught with a net it never de-spawns, which means cool looking aquariums!!! Octopus don't spawn in tanks, you have to catch more to have more in the tank. But Octopus that are caught in a tank need to be fed raw fish once every 4 days or they fill die. Dropping a fish in a tank attracts the octopus(will eat it too). Also on a side not, they can only eat once every 4 days so it wont be a pain to watch multiple octopus.
i think if its gonna be in the game, it should be simpler. maybe a leash? so you can easily move animals into pens. then the food you mentioned could be used to increase fertility so that the re-spawn rate is faster?
now why would a pigmen want to help you after seeing a piece of pork in your hand when it could have been its cousin who you just killed for it.
That's like feeding bacon to a baby pig.
Not a bad idea actually. This topic is a work in progress, i want to get every ones feedback and ideas for improvement. How ever i don't want the creation of farms to be a very easy task. It's generally a difficult job to maintain one. Also faster spawn rates would kind of make the place packed with npc's don't you think? I tried to set a fair enough spawn so people can farm the products of the animals without having to wait too long, or without having the area spammed with critters. Still need ideas for sheep though, so if you have any just reply.

Hah you got me there. Pretty big flaw, would it seem better if they got scared of you and ran away? Attacking them enough will provoke them into surrendering to your will perhaps? Beat them over the head with a pork chop. Would make the game too easy though, require modifications to it like maybe putting the porkchop on a golden stick?
Seems okay?
Why did my reply respond to bacon? This was meant to be a response to Ryonik.
