Okay, so I've been conceptualizing this idea a bit, and I think I'm getting it down. So, without further ado, here is the idea:
Welcome to the Necropolis
So, you've been exploring a bit, and you come across an odd temple structure in a swamp. Entering it, doors slam shut behind you. Trying to break out, you destroy your pick to no avail. You have no option but to go on. Climbing down a long ladder, you find yourself in an eary, dark room. The place is huge.
A central hub has bridges stretching out across an abyss, with huge mosoleums lining the sides of the structure. Golden statues shimmer in torch light. You step forward, torch held high, gazing at this ancient master piece, the burial grounds for kings of old. Then, a crunch. Looking down, you find the skeleton of an explorer, sword held in hand, a diamond helm gleaming, still on his head.
Then, a growl. Deep, rasping. A statue of a warrior with the head of a dog shifts its weight. Axe held high, it stikes toward you. A quick pary. Another strike. This one hits home. You slice the thing, sending it realing. Rushing forward, you throw it into the abyss. But too late. More come, almost endless. There is no hope. Welcome to the Necropolis, a voice says.
Welcome to death.
What is a Necropolis?
The Necropolis is an enormous underground burial site for old kings. Unfortunately, they don't like being disturbed in their sleep. Thousands, maybe more, of Ushtabi, Kashini, and Nekarta guard the tombs. Huge masoleums full of zombies and skeletons, those who once dared to seek the Necropolis' treasure as you do, wake to feed. The Necropolis is a place of danger, but also a place of immense wealth. Be prepared to find heavily guarded vaults, inside of which diamonds and gold in volumes untold can be found. Dare the Necropolis' dangers, and, should you survive, be ready to wake up on a throne of gold and diamonds, coffers flooding in wealth.
It seems like it would be a bit too "organized" for standard Minecraft to me. Then again, with strongholds, it could work. Then, though, I would think that rather than just one super-focused type, there could be different special biome-specific strongholds, each with their own unique guardian mobs and exclusive loot.
If this^ is added, the Necropolis would be the Swamps.
Ushtabi? Kashini? Nekarta?
The guardians of the tombs, the Ushtabi, Kashini, and Nekarta stand ready to attack any intruder. They appear as large statues, Kashini and Nekarta 3 blocks high, Ushtabi 5, of Gold and obsidian, with red diamond eyes. The Kashini carry Golden Axes. They have the head of a dog, the body of a human, though slightly skinnier. The Ushtabi carry huge swords. They have a skeletal head, with a normal Human body. Nekarta have bows, and appear with a spider head. They can spawn in any light level, as long as it is within a Necropolis (possibly making these a biome of their own). They never leave a Necropolis.

Why raid somewhere so dangerous?
Well, because there are plenty of Gold and Gold tools, and even Diamonds and (possibly) diamond tools, along with Enderpearls, glowstone, obsidian, redstone, Iron, a new Black Music disk (playing a suitably creepy song), Bows, plenty of arrows, and maps. Maybe, you just want a challenge.
Where do I find them?
They can be found by digging (they spawn away from mineshafts, strongholds, and caves), though the easiest way is by finding a pyramidal structure in a swamp, in the water. There are also commonly outcrops in the area, though these would be difficult to get to, first off, and even more difficult to get into.

That's it for now, I am trying to get pictures in but my Mincraft is weird. If anyone could do proof-of-concept for the Ushtabi, Kashini, and Nekarta, that would be great.
WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens. (Griefing is an art. And a lot of dead creepers.)

That's quite the idea! I have a feeling this would be the swamps.

Does sound awesome, but the pictures arn't. It needs to be more of a cathedral with gargoyles, maybe made out of obsidian. Not a pyramid.
Hmm... point well made!
Though, this is only the entrance.

I am adding a wall around the building now, though.

Epic idea! Maybe there should be some new swords one that puts things on fire and another one that has the damage of iron but lasts forever.
