We all know that notch added the hunger bar to add a realistic and survival aspect to the game... but in my opinion it depletes way to fast.. in real life a person isnt going to die of hunger in just a day and a half (as minecraft is now) i know thats not exact because it depends if your moving around.. but when arent you moving in minecraft.. i say it should deplete slower maybe over 2 - 3 days if your just walking normally 4 - 5 days if your not moving much at all and 1 - 2 days (like it is now) if your sprinting around and jumping.. give feedback if you like these ideas and also vote..
I don't know about you, but I get hungry at least once a day even when I'm just lounging around the house not doing much. I won't die of starvation, but then again I probably wouldn't survive being shot by an arrow or 2, or being bashed upside the head with a stone block. It's not supposed to be perfectly realistic.
Basically, I don't mind the hunger system as it is now.

Pretty much what im saying is that after a day of running you arent going to die but if it was actually realistic you could survive for a week or two without food.. you wouldnt be healthy but you could live.. but everyone has there own opinion
So you starve to death faster but you can survive; a few arrows, stepping in lava for a moment, being set on fire, falling from heights quite a bit taller than you, being exploded by suicidal creatures/tnt, and quite a few other things. So it's one thing that kills you faster than it should, in a whole mess of things that you can survive when you shouldn't be able to.
On top of that, getting food is amazingly simple. You can start a wheat farm pretty much anywhere there's water and dirt, and that can be done on your very first minecraft day. Again, minecraft is only meant to be semi-realistic. And if it took a few days to drain your hunger bar, it'd essentially be worthless.
By the way, have you ever tried to do any sort of hard work while hungry? You get hungrier much faster, and working in such a condition can be harmful to your health. Mining? Building? Fighting hordes of monsters? I'd call all of that hard work.

you have a few points but again we all have our own opinion
I think that the rate at which the hunger bar depletes should be more steady.
I've noticed that when my hunger bar is closer to full, it depletes pretty slowly, but as it gets closer to 0, its depletion rate speeds up.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
Also, I think Notch should add an item or two (besides the Golden Apple) that restores health, not hunger.
They should be hard to get (or craft), but should still be in the game for "emergency situations"

Seriously hope the enderman block nerf isn't too dramatic >_>
