This might be not in the right place. But it would be nice if the regeneration rate for health increased. Because of the new hunger thing, food doesn't heal you instantly. If you get touched by lava ONCE, you're dead. There isn't any stopping it without water. The normal regen doesn't even come close to being on fire. Even if the health isn't increased to survive fire, I'd like at least long enough to equip my water bucket and save my ass.
There should be a seperate option to instant-heal.
I suggested completely prepared/packed meals (such as sandwiches or the current Mushroom Stew rather than single pieces of meat or bread) heal health instantly, and some hunger as well.
Health regen, as my ideal, should be based off of the ratio of full vs hungry.
At 10, regen should be about twice as fast as present.
At 9, regen should be about 50% faster than current.
At 8, regen should be about current.
At 7, regen should be about 50% slower than current
At 6, regen should be about 25% slower than current
At 5 and below, the player does not regen.
Notch should make a healing potion, combining zombie flesh with bonemeal and both types of mushrooms in a glass vial. It'd be hard to make, but at the same time restores all of your HP.

Currently it is too easy to get the hunger bar up, with stackable food, giant mushrooms, cows, and chickens. Perhaps the hunger bar would deplete rapidly while healing? If the player is at two health and they eat their hunger bar to ten, the hunger bar might lose 2-4 levels on their bar over the next few seconds, which could be gained back by eating more.

That's an argument for reducing the damage for being on fire, not increasing the health regen rate.

It is ALSO an argument. This asks for both. This isn't a mutually exclusive suggestion as it targets both.
Since fire damage has not been changed since Notch released Survival, I'm focusing on something that's much more likely to change.
