I come from an area with clay-rich soil. The dirt is hard to dig because it's full of clay. I suggest that digging up dirt has a small (less than 10%) chance of dropping one clay ball instead of a dirt block. This is similar to how gravel drops flint. This would allow more clay to be harvested, but still requires work digging up all that dirt.

As of 1.8 clay is really abundant, so there's no need to increase the rate at which you can gather it.
It would explain the grey pixels in dirt.
Anyways, I have had bad luck since 1.8, no shorelines at all, only 1 river, no other body of water. I support this.

This kind of makes sense, as odds are if you are in an area without water, much of the surrounding area will be without water. But rather than this, I like PugRme's inland clay thread.
