My idea is that you can upgrade bows just like any other weapon/tool for instance gold bow, diamond bow. Instead of wearing out they would differ in power, range, and poison (Maybe the poison would be a type of arrow). This would greatly enhance Pvp battles and fighting monsters. What do you think? =D
Well, composite bows would make sense. They have been made with bone in the past. Some sort of recipe to enhance a bow with, say, three bones, would be neat.
Not sure what it would do, though. Extra damage would either be ridiculously unfair with one-hit-kills or meaningless. Its firing range is already pretty darn good. Perhaps it could charge faster.
Think about it. Carrying around an inventory of wooden logs is literally the equivalent of some giga-grams (I can't remember the exact #, but who cares). Minecraft doesn't make sense. Deal with it.
Anyway, I think this could be done slightly, but it would require some thinking. It would require some serious nerfing on the current wooden bow. (from 2 shots on a hostile mob from a wooden bow to 4, in order to have the diamond bow deal 2 shots). Other compromises could be made, but this would make bows a lot less OP. (even with the nerf, a charged diamond bow would deal just as much as a diamond sword w/o crits).
I think that bows should be made of different kinds of wood. Basically you could use the original crafting recipe of the bow but with Birch, and the other types of wood. maybe one type of bow would fire much more rapidly, another that has longer range, and the regular bow. BTW, poison FTW! maybe cave spiders could drop poison sacs. (induces poison upon consumption.)

=various types of logs
This actually makes the most sense to me, sure you could go the whole wood to diamond bit like all the other items, but that somehow seems like a waste of recources. Using different wood would actually apply in the construction of actual bows, as in real life some bows were sturdier and others made for longer range. I would say this would be a more interesting take on minecraft then the usual crafting formula.

It's already been made by Risu. Elemental Bows & Arrows.
No, Risu's is only arrows and it's not useful, it's just TNT and a bunch of other crap
Bows and arrows should stay the same.
If it changes... Think about it.
Diamond bows? Yah right.
